What’s it like returning to a movie set after 18 years?
The following podcast is a Dear Media production. This is Let's Be Honest with Kristen Cavalleri, a podcast all about getting real and open on everything from sex, relationships, reality TV, wellness, family, and so much more. And just a fair warning, there will probably be some oversharing. Hello, hello, hello. I am coming at you from a very different background. If you're watching the video, I'm actually in Atlanta right now. I've been here for the last two weeks. I'm filming a movie. I'm so excited. I've been having an absolute blast. So I can finally talk about it now. I'm doing a little rom com. It's for Roku, who we did the Laguna Beach reunion with. Fox actually just recently bought Roku. So it's sort of they're the same thing now, Fox and Roku.
And it's a really sweet rom-com and it's gonna come out in the spring. And I have not been on a movie set in like probably 18 years or something like that. So It's been so fun. I I'm playing a reality TV producer. And so In a lot of ways, this role almost feels like it was made for me because there are so many similarities. So I play this reality TV producer and I'm in Georgia and I'm filming like a bachelor type show. And it's a really sweet rom com. That's all I'm gonna tell you. I was so excited when I read the script, when I got the offer. My character name is Ari Harper, and there's also a lot of similarities between my character and I. She is All about work. She puts everything into her career and basically has no time for love.
I feel very similar in that regard for the last few years. And so I've been here and it's been a blast and I really feel like I've been in a healing era, I would say, for the last few months, because I feel like there were so many things from my early twenties that Didn't sit well with me. And what I mean by that is it's not like I was staying up at night thinking about certain things that happened to me in my early twenties. But there were like these little moments that I maybe wasn't proud of or like I knew I didn't give a hundred and ten percent. And what I mean by that is I used to act, right? Like after Lugana Beach, I did act. I mean, I've this is my sixth movie that I've done. I've did mo I did movies back in the day.
I did little guest spots on T V shows and so I definitely that was what I did in between Laguna Beach and the Hills and Every time I was acting, I I was so in my head and I was so insecure about it that I could never just settle into scene. Like I was always in my head about my lines, you know, like my what's my next line? I was never listening in scene. I was, I was just super insecure and like I needed validation to be like, did I do okay? And And so this time going into it now. I feel I'm just in such a different headspace. I mean, I'm an entirely different person today at age 39 than I was, of course, in my early 20s. I mean, I would hope and imagine that most people are, but it feels really good to be able to go back onto a movie set and be confident and know my lines and drop into the scene to be present to
Listen to my scene partner to react to To just walk away feeling good about the work that I've done. And I found out about this movie. When did I find out about this movie? May or June, somewhere in there. And so I had the summer to really learn this script, like the back of my hand, because the last thing I wanted was to get onto the movie set and be hung up about my lines. I knew if I knew my lines, man. Like knew this script so well that then I could let it go and then I could play and have fun. And that's the whole point of acting, I think, is to play and have fun. And so I was really happy that I had that time to prep and shout out my little baby girl sailor because she ran lines with me over and over and over this summer.
And I mean, honestly, without her, I don't know what I would have done because that was just it, right? Like the memorization of it. I had to be running it with somebody. My boys wanted no part of it. I would ask them, I'd be like, Do you want to run lines with me? They'd be like, No.
