What’s the vibe at Vikings training camp and who’s hosting the live broadcast?
Fans, we are live from Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center. It is a stunning, stunning August 1st day here out at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center. It's meat sauce and Norto. We are here until 2 o'clock. We've got a ton for you. It's going to be great. We'll hear from the head coach at some point. We'll hear from... Blake Brandel, the possible starting center of this team. I mean, likely starting center, right? Likely starting center, but I don't know what's likely and what's not likely out here, Norto. I just know we're back. We've been doing this for a while, man. It's always the best. We roll up and we walk in. I don't know what it is about coming out to this place. It's back to football day for every team around the league.
A lot of first public practices for these teams. The NFL Network is standing here behind us. It's a beautiful day for football, Nortz.
Yeah, it is. And just kind of talking off air, I mean, we're excited about the baseball team. And the trade deadline's on Monday. Let's make a push here. If you got a shot, maybe it's a bad league, but you're going to take a shot and try to get better and maybe find yourself in the postseason. All that's cool. It's summertime. We're not wishing away days. But this is perfect. This is perfect. This is absolutely perfect, and this team never makes it boring for us, it feels like, over the course of time. But every time we're out here, there's never a shortage of, this season, this is the A-topic talker that has to be handled on the field here in August. so that we can win games in September. Sadly, it happens to be the most important position on the team that we'll be spending segment after segment after segment talking about.
I know Abbott loves the win situation out here, and there's nothing we can do about it. Sorry about that, boss. But every time we get out here, it's the first-class way that we are treated. cool people on the TV side over here that we've been living amongst for years now on the perch. But the ability to watch, we'll get a closed walkthrough in front of us here. They're going to practice in a couple hours as well. And then I actually, you know, you mentioned Blake Brandl. And it'll be interesting, the Oregon State kid. We will get to ask him some questions about the quarterback situation. For sure. But just think about kind of the trajectory of Blake's career, where at one point, you know, nobody's going to pretend to be an elite Oregon State Beavers expert, and he's going to be a backup guy.
We need depth on this team, right? To go from the 20-some variations or incarnations of the O-line a year ago to now potentially with our healthy left tackle, newly paid right tackle, Second year for our left guard, Will Fries, a year removed from a broken bone on the lower body himself. And then now Blake Brando, who's always been the guy that, if I need you at guard, are you there? Gotcha. I need you at tackle, can you do that? I gotcha. Now he's just focused right in on being the guy that'll be snapping it to either Kyler Murray or Fries. J.J. McCarthy. So getting the chance to really meet him and catch up with him in this environment here where we can have some fun, that's one of my favorite parts is doing that with players every year as well.
And I think to your point, Nords, is... This is a team that we've seen the offensive line struggle with just interior, right? A couple years ago, it wasn't great. Then they go out and they spend the money on Will Fries. They bring in Ryan Kelly. Ryan Kelly has the concussion issue. Great player. Sucks that that happened to him, right? But, like... This is a team that then invests in Donovan Jackson at left tackle. Indeed. Or at left guard, excuse me. Then at left tackle, when he plays and when he's healthy, Christian Derusaw is one of the best left tackles in football. You've got Brian O'Neal on the right who just got rewarded with a brand-new contract. and rightfully should be rewarded because not only is he a great player, he's a captain of this football team.
