Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports, and giving you the real story behind the headlines.

0

21.771 - 39.412 Timbo

And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And for more, follow Timbo Slice Life 12 and the TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok.

Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy? Not quite. On Humor Me with Robert Smigel and Friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guests, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between-songs banter.

Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

63.165 - 69.434 Robert Smigel

Listen to Humor Me with Robert Smigel and friends on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

69.975 - 71.557 Unknown

On the Look Back At It podcast.

71.577 - 77.307 Sam J.

1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English.

77.327 - 90.25 Unknown

Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year.

Chapter 2: What happened with Victor Wembanyama's ejection?

679.344 - 694.547 J.D. Skeets

It's the most boring thing of all time. Because it has to be because it's actually quite serious and all the rules and regulations and you need to explain all that. I thought you were going to say because it's cover. They make it so boring that nobody would want to watch it. They can do anything they want there with their deep fake technology.

0

694.587 - 706.065 J.D. Skeets

But brilliant stuff by Adam Silver to throw everybody off the scent. You wouldn't rig it for the Wizards and the Jazz, two teams that had embarrassing tank moments this season. So if you don't do it this year, you can do it every other year. Yeah, right, right, right.

0

707.007 - 725.593 Tass Mellis

I read Brian Windhurst's recap of the entire thing, and he basically said it was the opposite of boring, being in there. It was exciting. No, it's the opposite of boring. Well, yes. I mean, watching, again, televised is different. I mean, he knew every single detail. You said 4-2-1-13.

0

726.694 - 733.461 Tass Mellis

As he was doing it, as he was reporting on it, he knew absolutely every outcome that was possible with every lottery ball.

0

Chapter 3: Who are the winners of the NBA Draft Lottery?

733.501 - 734.322 Tass Mellis

So that's far more exciting.

0

734.462 - 741.269 J.D. Skeets

I don't even think the 13 mattered. That last ping pong ball didn't even matter. It was the Wizards at that point after the 4-2-1 came up.

0

741.289 - 744.913 Tass Mellis

They were the only ones that had 4-2-1 in their options.

0

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the Wizards winning the number one pick?

744.893 - 754.327 Tass Mellis

Anyways, yes, I want to be televised, but I want to be a production, you know, not a nothing. When you watch it, it was literally nothing, right? It's hilariously boring.

0

754.867 - 767.205 J.D. Skeets

There's one guy explaining the rules. There's one guy doing the whole ping pong balls into the machine. There's another representative. They're sort of saying what the team is. But a funny part was the jazz actually won the third pick as well.

0

767.185 - 789.312 J.D. Skeets

yeah so they're like okay just reset it and they got to do it over because obviously they could get that combo again but they don't want to pick yeah yeah cool it was cool it is somewhat fitting with the lottery reform coming that this is the result we get here though because since the odds changed in 2019 the worst team had never won the number one overall pick so now in the final year this format

0

789.545 - 809.056 J.D. Skeets

It hits for the Wizards, who lost 26 of their final 27 games and had the BAM debacle and have been garbage for three years. And it's like, well, they're the worst team, and here they go. They get the number one pick. And then we will completely get rid of this, and it's going to be even more random, really, in theory, if we go the way we think we're going with it. in terms of the results.

0

809.076 - 824.783 J.D. Skeets

But congrats to the Wizards fans. Very good year to win. Very good year to win. Any other thoughts on them? Or let's get to some other winners and losers. Where do you want to start? Open floor here. I mean, tanking is a winner. Okay. Absolutely tanking is a winner. The Wizards and the Jazz both...

824.982 - 833.116 J.D. Skeets

traded for stars at the deadline, getting Trey Young and Anthony Davis in the Wizards case, getting Jaron Jackson Jr. in the Jazz case, and then they shut both of them down.

833.136 - 849.605 J.D. Skeets

They both had very embarrassing moments regarding tanking Bams 83, hung on the Wizards, kind of a black eye on their season, and the Jazz literally got fined for the shenanigans that they were pulling, and they got the top two picks. That's crazy. The Jazz are in the same boat as the Wizards where they needed the star of their rebuild.

849.625 - 866.553 J.D. Skeets

They got everything else, but they needed that number one guy. Now they get one. They're going to be adding veterans with Kessler coming back from injury. Jaron Jackson Jr. coming back from fake injury. Larry Markkinen coming back from the world's longest sickness. Like they've got guys coming back to play with Keontae George, who had an awesome season and whoever they end up picking.

866.613 - 886.087 J.D. Skeets

Maybe Darren Peterson feels like he fits nice there. You could even say Memphis tanked. John Morant was out for months with an elbow injury. They traded away Jaron Jackson Jr. They traded away Devin, or Devin, Desmond Bain prior to the season. So I think this shows, yeah, there were incentives to be bad because you could get a top three pick in the draft, and those three teams did.

Chapter 5: How did the Knicks sweep the Sixers in the playoffs?

986.459 - 1009.952 J.D. Skeets

Whoever's dropping to four, I'm happy. Like, I'm a Cam Boozer fan. Not everybody is. He seems most likely of the top three to drop out just because of concerns regarding his athleticism. Caleb Wilson is the guy who's mocked there for every single mock draft right now. He's at four. New Bulls GM Bryson Graham said, I'm into slap, size, length, athleticism, physicality. Wow.

0

1010.962 - 1013.947 J.D. Skeets

Sounds like Caleb Wilson to me. Oh, man.

0

1014.368 - 1016.071 Unknown

We got acronyms now? Slap.

0

1016.091 - 1033.042 J.D. Skeets

It's all about the slap. No Will Smith. But, yeah, I was mixing up a beautiful lime crema yesterday as the draft lottery was going. Bowls moved up. I'm not stopping. I'm not stopping stirring.

0

1033.363 - 1033.543

Oh, yeah.

1034.722 - 1042.733 J.D. Skeets

I'm going to stir it until they get the number one pick. They came to four. Cremo was good to go. Good, good, good.

1042.753 - 1044.015 Tass Mellis

A lot of air in that, Cremo.

1044.035 - 1064.698 J.D. Skeets

I'm sure it was great. We've got some leftovers. They'll go nice on the chickpea stew tonight. Excellent, excellent. Huge for those top four teams, obviously, in Washington, Utah, Memphis, and Chicago. I'm a little interested to see where, if it goes A.J. and Darren 1-2, You know, I'm intrigued at least which direction the Grizzlies would go.

1064.718 - 1079.442 J.D. Skeets

Do you take, like, maybe the more upside player in Caleb Wilson or the more sure thing, sort of almost, dare I say, almost Pau Gasol-like in a weird way, just, like, going to be a 2010 guy. I'm talking Boozer here, of course, and you sort of, like, build your franchise around him.
