Chapter 3: Who are the upcoming guests on the show?
You're down 3-1 in the series. You come back home to a city that has arguably the best atmosphere in the NHL. There's a lot of really good NHL cities, but, I mean, they had a decibel counter up. It got to, like, 112 last night. Right.
Was it because they had that one kid on? I don't know.
That was later in the game. We were talking about the start right now. So, I mean, the fans brought it, and that will bring a lot of energy to this team. Now you've just got to go back to Anaheim and win one more, and you're back in Edmonton with those fans once again, and you've got to find a way to get it done.
But, yeah, I mean, a perfect game, and I feel like it really put them on the right step here.
Need your thoughts on this because it seemed to me to be two separate games from the Edmonton Oilers. They came out really hard, built up a 3-0 lead, which I think was kind of important because a 2-0 lead so far in the series has not been safe. So they get the 3-0 lead. Anaheim makes it 3-1. And then quickly thereafter, they respond on the power play with Leon Dreisaitl.
It was beautifully set up. It was Bouchard to McDavid over to... Well, I was over to Leon for his usual, you know, this is the one timer. And so they get a 4-1 lead. And I actually, I watched because I was sitting in the seats last night, watched the bench. I thought Anaheim's body language changed just a little bit. And same with the guys on the ice.
And then the Oilers went into this almost rope-a-dope. We'll ice the puck because we're winning most of the face-offs tonight anyway. So we're just going to do this. and we're going to take the win, and then we'll build off of it for the next game. But my take was it was two separate games, and it worked very well for the Oilers, plus Connor Ingram was so solid last night.
Yeah, it really feels like they're starting to find their groove a little bit here, and Connor Ingram, of course, taken out in Game 4 and then came back for Game 5, and I really like that they decided to bring him back because that shows that you've got faith in this guy, and you know that... You know, he can have an off start to this series.
You'll put Jari in, maybe spark the fellas a little bit. And I think they played way better in front of him. But like you said, with that Dreisaitl goal in the power play, that was a thick middle of January power play goal for the Edmonton Oilers. And that's something that we haven't seen yet in this postseason, even towards the end of the year.

He's feeling pretty solid right now. I mean, the way that this series has played out, it's going to be big for this Edmonton Oilers squad to get a win in Anaheim, something they haven't done quite yet. I think with this team, it doesn't matter home or away.
You know, I think they're as positive as playing at home. You got last change, you got the... Fans cheering for you. But on the road, it's also beneficial where you just go out and play. You roll your lines. There's less to think about. I think there's some advantages of being on the road also.
Chris Knobloch also, that clip was from today, I should mention. Chris Knobloch yesterday was asked about Vasily Podkolzin, and he has been just unbelievable this year. He's five points in five games, and that's not all that he does. He four-checks hard. He goes into the corners. He'll take down the opposition. He'll tear them apart a little bit. Knobloch had his thoughts on Podkolzin.
He improves every line he goes to. Whether it's the first, second, third, or fourth line, he has always improved it. And a lot of it is just being able to play simple. He's a good player. He has good skills. You saw on his goal, he catches a knuckler pass, catches it, releases it right away, and puts it in a really small area. Obviously, you see the physicality. He's responsible defensively.
Yeah, he brings everything. You know, I think there's a lot of guys that fight to play with Bud Colson because of everything he brings.
Now, Vasily was a quieter player when he came into the Edmonton Oilers, having a few off years with the Vancouver Canucks. You've got to remember, this guy was a 10th overall draft pick, so he had the skill coming in. He was known to be a very, very good forward. It's just the way that things had worked out in Vancouver, a little bit tricky for him to navigate.

I honestly believe if they can find a way to pick up the victory tomorrow night, well, we know it's going to be a nut house here on Saturday night. That's for sure. But, you know, the early part of this series, there were Duck players after game number one who talked about the ā Wow, the atmosphere in there was pretty crazy. A lot of the younger guys, right? Well, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Because if it goes seven, you're going to see that place at its absolute loudest. And I thought it was great. By the way, huge tip of the cap to the Oiler fans last night. I wasn't sure how you were going to respond. right?
I knew you'd be there supportive because you're always very supportive, but I just thought the fans found another level last night, knowing that the boys needed a little bit of help and you came through big time. And the other thing too, it was so much fun watching through the second and third period because we're all kind of going through that nervous tension time, right?
So I just thought that the building was really vibrating and then to leave with the crowd last night, which I don't usually get a chance to do, but I did it yesterday. It was so much fun. So looking forward to Maybe one coming up on Saturday night. We'll see how the Oilers handle it. So that's pretty much it. Anything else that we're missing out on in the locker room?

A little bit of a condolence for any Canadian listening to this one. Team Canada or Team USA lost today as well. 5-2 to Latvia.
That is a shame. Yeah. Anything else? Hey, the Vesna Trophy finalists have been announced today. Yeah. Did you see who's on the list?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders, Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins, and Andrei Vasilevsky of the Tampa Bay Lightning. It's not often you see all finalists for a trophy come from the same conference. But, I mean, the way that the East goaltending has been this year, it makes a lot of sense.
Well, Dustin, I'll also forget that the award is voted on by the league's general managers, and obviously will not be handed out until after the playoffs conclude. But the GMs, I think, if you talk to a lot of the general managers, and we've heard plenty of them on this show, they've really looked at the Eastern Conference as being much stronger than the West this season.
And that's hard to argue, right, for the most part. But those three guys, I don't have a lot of complaints with any of those guys.
No, they've had fantastic years, each and every single one of them.
Is that it? That's pretty much it? Yeah, that's pretty much all that's going on right now. Also, we've had a few texts come in today. Got to mention this. One is, we have not heard anything out of Bakersfield. Been no call-ups by the Edmonton Oilers now that the Bakersfield season's over. However, now that the Oilers have touched down in California, SoCal, this would be obviously a
