That trade went down on July the 1st. And you can assume that there's a redistribution of money. And the team's got about $5 million in cap space. Based upon a 13-7-3, 13-forward-7-D-3 goaltender split, So they're probably going to add at some point, and it's going to be up front, and it's likely going to be a top six forward. So give me a target, and how do you acquire that player?
And understand that if they do end up at around $4.5 to $5 million in cap space to start the year, that by the time the deadline occurs, you're looking at a $20 million addition. And you can move player. You have $20 million in cap space. You could take on an $8 million player at that time. And then remember, you have three goaltenders, not two. Yeah, absolutely. You know what? You know, being Canadian and, you know, I had an opportunity to coach in Toronto and Ottawa. There's just something about coaching in Canada. There's just so many more people are aware of everything that's going on, the situation, the magnitude of hockey in Canada. It's just, it's a little bit different animal after being in L.A. for, you know, three years. People come by, see you at the golf course. Where are you these days? You know, when you're living in Windsor and you're with a Canadian team, everyone knows where you're at and is constantly asking questions.
I got Oren Koulis coming up, the former owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning. His son, Miles, was an Oilers farmhand at one time, and he often says, Stoff, you guys have two of the top five players in the world, but my argument is Edmonton now has three superstar players, and you're going to be coaching one of them, and his name is Evan Bouchard, and you know all about Evan because you saw what your team did with him at the World Hockey Championship, and you saw how your team was different once he got concussed. on that hit by Ryan Lindgren, which I'm sure a few guys have maybe marked a notch there in the upcoming schedule during the year. But anyways, I digress. Looking for, I mean, you saw quite a bit of Boosh.
Your thoughts on working with this guy this year?
Well, I can tell you this. I've coached quite a few players now, and every once in a while you get guys that are special. And, you know, I had some young guys in Ottawa that were that. There were some guys in L.A. But towards the tail end of their career, when you look at a guy like him, he's right in the middle, you know, low to middle part of his career where he's getting ready or he is going to be in his prime. And I think his ability to make plays – uh under pressure and his ability to be calm in big moments is something that um you don't have on every team and i and i had an opportunity to watch him run the power play and i just think there's a skill set there that that is undervalued or maybe he's underappreciated
because of the fact that you have McDavid and Dreisaitl, and say, well, he's with those guys. Well, I've seen him with not those guys at the World Championship, and he can run a power play as good as anyone in the National Hockey League.
