We bring back. Derek Ryan. Hello Derek, how you doing? Hey Bob, long time no talks. Uh I'm great. How are you? Good. I just did an open line segment. We had Jeff Jackson on the show. He of course is the CO and president of the the Emmonton Oilers and Uh because obviously there's a lot of consternation here in oil country about what's going on with Connor McDavid. Uh and this text comes in uh from a listener. He says, That open line segment, Bob, reminded me why I didn't listen all summer. Laugh out loud. I know uh because uh we had a uh caller Vince who said, I know what Jeff Jackson just said, but he's wrong, Bob Connor wants out. Because Jackson was basically saying Everybody just needs to relax and this is gonna, you know, run its course here and um anyways I'm fairly confident uh uh Connor McDavid will end up uh re signing.
Uh he's already in town for the uh uh the captain's keys. You got to know McDavid over the last four years, didn't you?
Yeah, I would just say he's a real good buddy of mine. Um yeah, I do. I do know him.
And uh from he's he's a pretty committed guy, isn't he?
Yeah, he is. Uh there's a lot of layers to Connor. Um, obviously things that you see um from afar if you're a fan or or whatever, a a distant observer. Uh he keeps himself pretty pretty distant. But um if you're in his inner circle, it's amazing how much love and care he has for those people. Um he's a completely different person. He opens up and uh he generally cares for for all those people that are in his inner circle and um yeah, just one of the most genuine, loving, kind, caring person that I've ever met. And Obviously you don't see that in the media but um but I can attest to that for sure.
Well, you know, I I know loving, caring and kind, uh a lot of people think of me the s anyways. I don't think anyone's described you with those words, Bob. And we've we've known each other a long time now, Derek. So it's been uh it's been seventeen years. Let's do this. You put out on Instagram, you thank the city of Edmonton for your four years. Uh are are are you retired? Are you are you looking to go over to Europe? What are you gonna do this upcoming season?
No, I'm retiring. Uh we're we being my family, we're back home in Spokane. The kids started school today. They're their new schools here in Spokane and um yeah, I I never really this off season have actively looked for a job to be honest. It's Um the European thing was obviously um could have been an option if I wanted it to be and maybe other NHL teams, but if it wasn't gonna be in Edmonton I really didn't want to to try and move the family and uh really do that whole thing again with everybody is kinda hard as the kids get older and you know, we had
