I mean, the excitement, the entertainment value was full force from puck drop right through the end of it. US scores on their first shot of the game. They score, of course, on their last shot of the game in overtime. There was a lot to drink in. So we figured we'd set aside some time today for us to break it all down. We'll do that over the course of the first hour of today's show, which is brought to you by World of Spas. Yes, it is a different voice because we've got Bob Stauffer en route to Anaheim, and that is to start this three-game road trip for the Edmonton Oilers.
All of that will unfold tomorrow. over the course of this week and they're back home and they've got some more road action out through the central division coming up it's back to it in full force with these games coming every second night or sometimes on back-to-back nights like aiden they start this with a back-to-back set it's going to be important as we know for them to come out and probably perform a little bit better than they've shown the the tendency to do when they come out of these breaks like when i think about christmases And I think about bye weeks. And I even think about the starts of seasons in the last two or three years. It hasn't been great. So I'm looking at this stretch of hockey thinking there's some real important games coming up.
Yeah, and this team hasn't really been in a situation like this before where they're fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive here. I mean, the Anaheim Ducks are one point back of them. They have two games in hand on the Oilers, so it's imperative that they win that game. The next game, you're going up against another really strong team in the Pacific Division. Not quite as good as where Anaheim is in the standings, but They're creeping up as well. And then you've got to worry about the L.A. Kings. And there's so many different opportunities for this team over these next three games to find a way to stack wins, meaningful wins against teams that are creeping up on them. I mean, we're late into the season now, and there's not going to really be much time for this group to kind of find their legs once again.
For the third time in this season, you've got to think about the Christmas break. Like you said, Brendan, slow, slow, slow. They can't afford to be slow on this next one. So they're going to have to figure it out.
And we'll see about when exactly Connor McDavid rejoins the team. Basically, what's going on is they've had a boot camp. They were off for 12 days and then they practiced five out of the last six days and have really been, you know, trying to shake the cobwebs off after some time away for sure. But. The cobwebs to me, excuse me, were growing before the run of pre-Olympic hockey even ended. You know, you're so not overly excited, but you felt like there was an accomplishment finally achieved when they hit that third win in a row. And what did they do? They immediately followed up with three losses in a row. So that was their chance, as you and I were talking off air today, their chance to build some separation from the teams you just highlighted was that homestand.
