And welcome back to La Show. He's a hockey hall of famer, uh certainly one of the top two or three defensemen of his generation, and he's our orders now headliner today for Will Hawk Beef Jerky. Others can try to imitate, but nobody can duplicate the great flavor of Wilhawk beef jerky. Only available in Leduc. You know how good Wil B Wilhawk beef jerky is? I got the coaches at hey stuff, when are you gonna drop off this year's uh round of uh Will Hawk beef jerky? It's the only time the coach has ever talked to me. Anyways, that's how good it is. Uh we're pleased uh welcome back to the show uh hockey hall of famer, Chris Pronger. Chris, how are you? I'm doing great, Bob. How about yourself? Good, you got a big speaking
engagement tomorrow? I do, yeah. I'm uh I'm here speaking at uh the Sch Schneider hockey uh fit to lead conference with uh about three hundred Young high school and uh early college. Aged kids. Should be a lot of fun.
And Snyder, so is that Philadelphia?
That and you are correct, sir. I am in Philadelphia, back where it all ended.
Well, it almost it almost ended f uh for me one time in Philadelphia as well, Chris. Uh uh you would have been with Anaheim at the time, but I uh the Oilers Hemsky went in in one game and scored two unreal goals against the Flyers. And the Oilers won this matinee. And the two team buses were parked in a spot where mister Snyder's vehicle uh couldn't get around the bus because I I was on the phone talking beside the bus and he uh Oh yeah, he rolled out the window. I wouldn't have went over very well. No, no, no. So he he kinda rolled down the window and he goes, I'd hit ya but it'd do a lot of damage on my vehicle. He would have loved that. Oh, that's a good chuckle, absolutely. All right, look, uh, this is an interesting situation because, you know, this is year seventeen of me doing the games, Chris, and you read players, and there's some guys that can play hurt.
What factors influence a player’s decision to play hurt versus resting for the team?
There's some guys that always come back early ahead of situations, and then there's guys that are maybe getting rested a bit, and then suddenly they appear back in lineups, look at what Florida did the last Couple days. Um so Connor McDavid, as you know, and Leon Dreisettle today, Nugent Hopkins was sick. Um Eck Holm was their best all around defenseman, their number one goaltender, uh skinner, Trent Frederick, who is you know, can potentially be a real impact player for Eminton and Kane. They got a lot of good players that'll line up, Chris. But what was interesting with McDavid is he's skated the entire road trip and often on the optional skate days. He was like the last one of the last guys off the ice.
Today he kinda looked like he was chomping at the bit. So whose call is it in those situations? Is it the player call like the player knows his body the best? Obviously the team has to, you know, always approve a guy getting back in. But were there some guy like first of all, whose call is it when you played? You know, how much latitude did you give to uh the medical staff and how much of it was I know my body the best.
I think it all depends on The circumstance in this case You know, is it a Is it a game that you need to win? Is there is what what are the implications of the game? Uh uh, what is a little bit more rest gonna do for him? Well, there's there's a lot of X factor involved in my opinion.
