You know, I have vague recollections of that 10 days, but I think they were all good.
Okay. It had to be good. That's how you know it was really good. Let's get into it. Your list of 20 prospects coming out shortly. Bob released his list of top 10 prospects, and just looking at it, Isaac Howard at one, Quinn Hudson, Josh Szymanski, Viljami Mariala, Owen Michaels, Connor Klatenberg, Bo Akey, Samuel Johnson, Zach Sharp, and Paul Fisher. Before we get into the nitty gritty, what's your take on Bob's list?
Well, like I said the other day, I think Bob's fever dream on right shot centers got to him with Owen Michaels. I mean, and don't get me wrong, he's a good prospect. I see some other guys a little bit higher than that, but I think the list is right. We kind of circle the same group of players, and that's probably the You know, I don't think the list would differ too much from observers of the Oilers prospect depth. Like I said, there's quibbles here and there, but everybody will have those.
Yeah, for sure. Isaac Howard is a big question mark for a lot of Oilers fans this year. There's going to be a ton of competition in the bottom six, and it's going to be interesting to see how Ike fits in that mold. Obviously, when he was down in Bakersfield, it wasn't for his scoring prowess. We knew he could score goals. It was working on the penalty kill, and... and the defensive play. I mean, what's your take? How NHL-ready do you think he's going to be next year?
Well, I mean, he's ready, right? He's, you know, the thing with Isaac Howard is, like, I think sometimes players of this ilk kind of get cast in situations specific ways. I would see this commentary as an example with him that he didn't work hard enough. Defense wasn't his favorite part of his game. All of those kinds of Commentaries, and to my mind, that's not the issue with Isaac Howard. Like, Isaac Howard works hard. He doesn't take shifts off. And, you know, that is kind of a good foundational set for a guy who's trying to break into the NHL. A coach can trust him that he's going to get max effort on every shift. Where Isaac Howard struggled last year, both, you know, in particular when he was with Edmonton, is understanding...
the risk reward part of the nhl game and you know he took too much risk and that is something that a coach is absolutely going to put you on the bench for and you know at his age you know you put him down in the minors to learn and so you know that's what he went down to do and you know, his, when you look at things like goal share at five on five, he was really strong. And so, you know, so that that's telling you that he's understanding or he's learning that the risk side of the game has to be managed better. And I thought he did that well last year. So, you know, in terms of is the NHL ready? Yes, I think he is NHL ready, but, Can he crack this roster? I think that's a question mark. But that's not because of him.
I think the roster is stronger. The depth chart is certainly stronger. And he's going to run into some formidable challenges there. And you don't want a player like him. playing on your fourth line so you know you sort of play up and you know on the third line likely you know maybe if he can get off to a good start you maybe even screen you know squeeze him on the second line but it's not it's not going to be an isaac howard issue it's it's a depth chart issue and i i think he'll just be fine when he gets there it's just a question of when he gets there
