So, first of all, I mean, like if anybody, I mean, I was, I don't know, there's a few different things. I thought Babcock would come across as maybe a bit more contrite. That certainly didn't happen. I was a little surprised at that. You know, I was very interested because I heard their meeting was quite intense. The players grilled him pretty hard, but I heard he gave it right back to them pretty easily. That certainly appeared to be the case. You know, I heard DJ Smith had some interesting comments on Darnell Nurse, which I thought were pretty impressive. And then, you know what? It was a lot of what I expected. It was that we think that our coach needs to be more demanding. And that's exactly what's going to happen.
I thought that that might be a bit more conciliatory, but I watched the press conference after it happened, and that certainly didn't happen. Yeah, no question about that.
All right, speaking about Darnell Nurse, it was you and Mark Spector that first reported.
What are the latest updates on Mike Babcock's hiring?
Any update on the Darnell Nurse file at this time?
You know what? Not at this point in time. I think there's some serious interest. I think Philly has had some interest. I think Pittsburgh has had some interest. I think there's a couple of situations there, but at this point in time, I'm just not sure if he wants to go West. I wouldn't be surprised if Bob, if Anaheim shown a little bit of interest because there's a lot of holes on their D all of a sudden. But I'm just not convinced that he wants to go West. So I'm focusing a lot on Pittsburgh and Philly and some other Eastern possibilities at this point.
You do have a report in the last two hours on Zach Warensky and the Blue Jackets. What can you say there?
Yeah, so basically what's... Sorry, Bob, if I'm whispering a bit, I'm on a train. Okay. I'm going to do an event tomorrow morning, so it's a bit crazy.
How did the players respond to Mike Babcock during the Board of Governors meeting?
So basically what I've heard is that Wierenski and the Blue Jackets are supposed to meet after the draft. Like, there's been enough noise here about how all of this is going that... There's been a lot of noise here about all of this is going. And I think Columbus wants to get a handle on what the truth really is. Now, since I wrote that, Bob, I've had a couple of people say to me that they wonder if that's just a way to kind of take the heat off for a few days. And they think that maybe that was just him to punt things down the road a bit. But, you know, someone said to me, if you don't think that people are going to keep calling about Columbus, about Wierenski to find out what's going on before the draft, you're crazy.
So the meeting might be after, but that might not stop things before.
All right. Well, and this is where we mentioned Connor McDavid is represented by Judd Moldaver. Austin Matthews by Judd Moldaver. Zach Wierenski, Zach, you know, Judd Moldaver. And Roman Yossi, Judd Moldaver, those guys all have two years left in the term. And we know that Connor's been involved in the process in Edmonton with the coach. And we believe that there's been at least a Zoom with Matthews. So maybe this is sort of the modus operandi here of finding out where you're at with some of your best players. You know what I'm saying? Well, it's not only that.
I think that's a good point, Bob, absolutely. But I think also if you take a look at it, you know, we just had a situation with Grayson Kachuk where he was traded with two years to go on the field because he said he wasn't going to resign there, right?
