Uh the Golden Bears have a reportedly lost, referring to the University of Alberta, four current players to the same school, NCAA school.
And uh this is from Stan Marple, the general manager. He says, I don't believe that school has anybody in the last Five seasons sign entry level contracts. And we've had three guys sign entry level contracts from our program in the last five or six years. That from uh uh Golden Bears general manager Stan Marple. Well it's believed that defenseman Aidan uh Della Gort Jondier, who was a sixty-point defenseman and captain of the Saskatoon Blades, who had teams interested in him on an American league deal. The analyst season is one of those players. Mark LeJoy, who uh had a twenty five goal, fifty-eight point season last year with the Edmonton Oil Kings, would be another one of those players. And then a couple forwards.
Brett Hyland drafted by the Washington Capitals and Sean Shergal drafted by the uh Anaheim Ducks. LeJois, Shergal, and Highland all made the Canada West all rookie team this year. First team. So those would be significant losses for Alberta and it is believed the uh school that is uh recruited those players is Nebraska, Omaha. Mike Gavinette, the grandson of Claire Drake. Yes, the same Claire Drake that started Alberta's program, uh or turned Alberta's program into a legendary powerhouse in Ebonton in the uh nineteen fifties and sixties and seventies until nineteen I guess his last year would have been the eighty eight, eighty nine season. Uh Mike Gabinett's the grandson of the since uh passed away c coach Drake.
That's quite something because nobody looked up more to uh Claire Drake than Stan Marple and Ian. Hervers, who are the general manager and the head coach of the U of A and I bring that up because the U of A uh w exclusively recruited out of Canada West for a long time.

Kurt, just before this is an interesting story that's getting out here. Uh I just wanna how aggressive have some of the N CAA schools been and not just targeting your graduating twenty year olds, but maybe some of your eighteen and nineteen year olds as well. Uh have you had call have y have you heard through the grapevine about, you know, maybe some of the schools targeting some of your players that still will have a year or two left of uh major junior eligibility. Kurt, you there?

You know, majority of the N C double team double A teams are going through you know, us here at the you know the managers within the league and I mean I'd say about you know if I was gonna mark earmark a number I'd say probably ninety percent of the teams but there's certainly some teams out there um that are choosing not to, you know, try to have relationships with teams in our league and and try to take uh players earlier than um you know their junior eligibility runs out. So I think uh you know for the for the most part there's been heads up given and especially for the twenty year old players on our team.
But uh I think any time a t a school's been talking to a nineteen year old, they've kind of talked about them, you know, coming the next season or if it was an eighteen year old going when they're twenty. But uh yeah, there's no uh there's no doubt about it.
