He said he had five chances. Five chances, and... The thing that I found interesting in that conversation is he said, if he doesn't get a second chance, he's not alive today. Oh, no, it's like that.

How does Craig MacTavish reflect on the importance of second chances in sports?
And he's not afraid to share. I mean, there are some... That guy went through a hell of a lot, and the league supported him in the process and helped. I mean, he basically credits the National Hockey League with him being alive. It's great that it's there for players, isn't it?
Well, it is. There's a great support system for NHL players. And Brent's such a good guy. I've met many times over the years, and he's not... at all unlike a lot of guys that were in that business and I mean it just it had to be brutal because there were I mean when you're up above the ice surface it's you know fight this fight but when you're down on the you you know you can get killed you can be killed and I've always thought that that's the thing that's going to do away with fighting in the NHL somebody's going to get killed somebody's going to get punched uh in the wrong area in the temple and uh there's going to be a tragedy and you know i can only imagine like i didn't do much of it as you know i did a bit you were pretty good at it when you decided to do it unless you're overmatched with a guy that was a superior technical fighter but anybody that was a guy that like your era you kind of had to fight like in the 80s you just you just sort of did i mean there were guys that i you know you had to be fearful i mean i always say that you know courage isn't the absence of fear it's
managing the fear right and there were guys like brad march or marchment i uh brian marchman yeah i used to go at it with him a little bit i'm not sure we ever fought but gary roberts we fought a few times and man it's it's it's it's nerve-wracking wendell clark i don't even know if you thought you were in a fight but he because he swung so hard so early but he could hurt you he was a guy Yeah, no, he hit me so hard, I thought it was kicked by a mule. But those guys, I remember talking one time on Craig Simpson's deck to Mike Beware, and he was a funny guy, and he has... He told such an unbelievable story. He was like 6'4", 225 or something, wasn't he? Yeah, and he was just terrified.
