Do you ever sit there when we're working a game, watching Conor McDavid, and just think to yourself, I'm watching the best damn player that's ever played this game.
Pretty incredible, isn't it? Yeah, you know what? It's been quite the ride and quite the journey to watch him grow and just become the player that he is, but some nights when he's got that puck on his string, you just know it's going to be a difficult proposition for anybody trying to defend against him, and I think he's had a few of those games actually in the last little while where he was creating a ton, but the puck just wasn't going his way. He got a few bounces last night. And rightfully so. That's how you create your bounces. You continue to go back to the drawing board. You continue to do those things. And I was talking with some people in the press box after the second intermission. He had five points going into the third period.
you know, because of circumstances last night, I think they kind of sat back a little bit more. They didn't challenge as much. They knew they had a three goal lead. They were closing it out, changing goaltenders. Dickinson goes down with an injury. He could have certainly ratcheted up. He had a couple opportunities. You could just tell he wasn't quite going as offensive as he was in the first two periods. And that just goes to show you, you know, he just has an understanding of what's going on and what he needs to do. And, You know, the thing for me, and the two goals he scored in back-to-back games in Utah and the power play and the goal he scored when he went around the world, walked around and tucked it in past Nadelkovich, to me...
The greatest asset that Connor McDavid has is his fearlessness. It's incredible. He broke his collarbone in his first year. We all remember the Giordano injury where he got cross-checked into the post, again, driving that same way that he drove the last two goals and he scored in that way. And went into the post hard, broke his leg, had the huge recovery, the documentary about him coming back, not having the surgery. And for him to overcome those injuries and still have the fearlessness to drive the puck to the net that hard is what I find absolutely incredible. I think it's unbelievable. Because most people would be deterred a little bit, but he has so much confidence in his edge work, so much confidence in his balance.
He's actually probably... playing without fear even more now than he did earlier this career because he just has that confidence when he has the puck on the stick so yeah he attacks every night I don't think there's too many nights that Connor McDavid is taking off as any in the National Hockey League when he's played when you're that consistent you bring it that many times you're going to have nights where you put five or more points up and he's had a bunch and he's going to have more
