I Div, it's a story. Mad week. Mad week. Yeah, I suppose we last spoke on Saturday evening. Ben, you were in the Bretson at the time we were back in our home counties of Monan and Westmead. Yes. Um but since then Um obviously that was Saturday evening and we recorded. I think we recorded just as Gavin Bazunis' daymen came in and obviously withdrawing from the squad. Sunday during the day, it turned out to be a quiet day. Um
I don't know if it felt more quiet because of the fact that Saturday Saturday was so mental and so hectic and you were anticipating more happening, but maybe it was actually the norm that with the nature of what happened on Saturday that Sunday was always going to pale in comparison to that and the lead up to the match itself. Unless of course something was to happen where the match wasn't going to go ahead. I don't think you were reflecting on it we're ever going to hear anything outside of that, which obviously
Yeah. Didn't come to come to the four-all. Yeah, so maybe our feelings on Saturday was maybe the game wasn't going to go ahead. Obviously, that kind of changed on Sunday when as we got closer to the game and the kickoff time that the players obviously got the bus, went to the went to the stadium, played the match. The match finished 3-0 to Ireland, if anyone um has missed that on the pitch. But perhaps the most interesting thing that came from from that game was Paul Cooke's decision, the president of the FI to finally speak to the media in the aftermath. And Ben, you were there. Uh how did that come about? And um if people haven't listened, it's it's there on our social channels um and it's been podcasted as well.
But how did the Paul Cooke interview um to the to the media huddle come about?
Well for people who maybe are a little bit unaware, Paul Cooke is the head of the FI board. There's fourteen members on the FAI board and they are ultimately the people who do make the decisions. David Crowell is appointed as CEO and John Martin is appointed as director of football. Shane Robinson, all these people are appointed. Um these are the voted in executive board of the FAI. Paul Cooke is the head of it. Paul Cooke is the only member of that board. that was in the Bretson with us and they t he sat quite literally the row in front of myself um in the stadium on Sunday evening. Paul Cooke has been the person who all along with this situation has been Kind of no messing about with his words that this game is absolutely going ahead.
Um at the FAI AGM last November he said that Ireland if drawing against Israel when at the time it was a one in four chance, we knew the the kind of pairings for the Nations League that we could draw against them. Uh and he said absolutely we'll go ahead. That was a week after the FAI EGM where basically the the members of the FAI, the General Assembly decided to submit a motion to attempt to ban Israel from UEFA competition. And he said at that AGM that we would absolutely play Israel, provided it was part of a UF competition. Fast forward then to July where you have the EGM for the General Assembly with the FAI asks to play the games against Israel. They obviously vote seventy five thirty two in favour of playing the games.
