Um well, it's not s it's not a simple question. Uh, and it's impossible to give you a simple answer. Um however, uh you have feel some Pity f and re s at the same time respect for the Irish players. They were thrust into this situation and have been Um and it's been very difficult for them to manage it. Uh, they've been very brave, I think. And uh it's It's been a time for Irish football because the way Yeah, see I m mismanage uh

Um and also for UEFA, there's a big question mark. About their Attitude, behavior. And uh in particular how they have really ignored Um the Israeli um situation and pretended that Israel are the same as other football teams. Uh and for example that while Russia should be put out of competitions. Uh and are out of competitions because of their Invasion of Ukraine. Um Israel have been able to conduct A genocide. uh in Gaza and also In uh on the West Bank. um uh ethnic cleansing. And they continue uh to do both of those things. Well, he shouldn't have had to go public on his own. So they would have known before uh he went public that he was planning to do so and they should have first of all kept everything in the collective if I could. that uh uh all the players are doing you know, the same thing. But the if the player decides he doesn't want to play against uh the opposition that you to play, well then you have to accept it and Um I un my understanding is that several players were angry with him. But most accepted that he had the right to do what he did.
Was the FAI right to let Ireland’s players vote on the Israel fixture?
Do you think the FAI were correct to then allow the players to vote on what they wanted to do?
Well, uh I think Yes. Th the FAI being right is a difficult concept to get into my head, but the players are entitled to vote if they want, and they did. Um the FAI should have given guidance weeks ago. When It first became apparent that we were drawn against Israel. uh then they should have had a collectors view of the um implications of that and how to manage the situation. uh and they didn't and you know, tax Everyone knows about the FAI, it's no surprise that they make a mess of things, but this is far too serious. For them.
Um I think they should have had all the information aimed in advance as well.
How did Ireland’s manager handle the squad’s concerns about the match?
Like to me, one of the most crazy things about the weekend was Hallgrímsson saying that he hadn't spoken to the goalkeepers, despite the fact last week he had said he'd information that they all felt uncomfortable about the game. The reality is that he should have known before this camp started where every player stood on this.
He should and he hasn't really covered himself in glory by talking about The genocide he said uh he was playing against he was playing against And not us. Um and all of that sort of stuff. I I just felt he was out of his depth because the manager is a very important figure in this kind of situation. He is the leader of that group. The football group. Uh and um I I think it's unfortunate. It wasn't managed better. But it's a it's a desperate situation that footballers should not be put in.
