Why does July often feel like it disappears and how can I make it feel like me?

Danielle McGeough 0:00
You're not someone who needs to be pushed harder. You're already doing a lot. The question isn't whether or not you're gonna show up for July. It's about whether or not July is gonna feel like you. And that's what this episode is about. We're not gonna add more to your plate. We're not going to build a streak that you'll resent by the 12th. We're gonna try something different. We're going to design a July. That's ambitious and grounded at the same time. By the end of this episode, you are going to have a framework for three regular practices, one for your health, one for your wealth, and one for your relationships. You're gonna understand the difference between support and accountability. Which sounds simple, but I promise it will change the

Way that you set yourself up for this month. Let's do this! Welcome to Plan Goal Plan, a podcast where ambition meets balance. I'm Daniel McGeeu. I'm a professor, speaker, mom, recovering overachiever, and self-leadership coach for high-achieving women. At the intersection of research, practice, and play, I discovered a path to planning and goal setting that's bold, balanced, and sustainable. Together, we'll reclaim your time, empower your goals, and create a life where you thrive at work and at home. Grab a pin, let's get started. Y'all, I can't believe that we're almost in July. It is also the end of Q2. So we're gonna be jumping right into Q3. And I wanted to end this month with an activity that would help you move into July.
Danielle McGeough 1:33
So if I have my calendar correct. You're gonna be listening to this episode on the very last day of June. And July is one of those months too that just moves incredibly quickly.

What is the simple three‑practice framework for health, wealth, and relationships?

Danielle McGeough 1:48
And so I wanted to create an activity that would help people stay on track the month of July, but also might produce some relief that would still have space in the month to play a little, to rest. And just so that y'all know, the topic for July is relief. rest and work bridging the play that we covered in June and moving into the rest of July. So I recently held something called the July Sprint with my group, and I really struggled with this because I don't like the language of a sprint. Now, sprints are kind of where you go hard, you go all out, but the idea is that they're over quite quickly. And I didn't necessarily want something that would push people harder, but I did want to create a container for July to say, hey,
Danielle McGeough 2:40
This is what your July needs to be. This is how you feel like you in the month of July. And here are a few practices that you're gonna commit to. And anything else can just be loosey-goosey. So I'm gonna walk you all through this really quickly. The idea was that this summer sprint isn't necessarily about pushing yourself harder, more rigid, more stakes, more to fail at. But rather a place to give you a little bit of structure as you move through the summer month while giving you also the flexibility of it being summertime. So we are going to pick. Some practices that you can imagine yourself doing on the worst Tuesday of the month. So this is not your best day. This isn't when you wake up and you're like, let's go, I've got all the energy.
Danielle McGeough 3:30
This is your worst Tuesday sort of a practice. So here's the framework. It's pretty simple: three domains, three practices, one month. So the idea is that you're going to choose. One practice per domain. And we're just simplifying this. We're gonna call it health, wealth, and relationships. So health being around something that helps you feel good. This could be sleep, this could be mental health, this could be your physical health, exercise. I'm shooting for about 10k steps every day the month of July. Wealth might pertain to your job. So I have a weird July coming up and I need a little bit of space from my work. That being said, I really need to use the month of July to do a lot of visioning work and make a lot of decisions about what my fall is gonna look like.

How should I choose a concrete health practice to do on my “worst Tuesday”?

Danielle McGeough 4:25
And so I'm gonna create and do some daily practices that are going to really help me in July with a very clear vision and decisions around what my fall is going to look like.
