Shout out to my client Genevieve. who introduced me to this Led Zeppelin quotation, if it feels good, do it. The month of June, we explored the concept of play. If it feels good, do it. But after all of this play, we might be feeling like we need a little bit of rest. And so the month of July is all about rest and we are going to get into all sorts of myths that we have around rest, the different types of rest, and some ways that if rest is something you really struggle with that you can break through, find a way to actually rest. So what that sounds like. Something that you dig? Let's do this. Welcome to Plan Goal Plan, a podcast where ambition meets balance. I'm Daniel McGiew. I'm a professor, speaker, mom, recovering overachiever, and self leadership coach for high achieving women.

At the intersection of research, practice, and play, I discovered a path to planning and goal setting that's bold, balanced, and sustainable. Together, we'll reclaim your time, empower your goals. goals and create a life where you thrive at work and at home. Grab a pin. Let's get started. So you all, I loved the month of June. I loved the concept of play and creativity. And it felt like it was really about exploring permission and like I said, creativity and identity. And my own personal month of June was really rich. with play and creativity and connection in a way that I just feel really incredibly grateful for. One thing that kept coming up in my conversations with people about play, whether that was in my coaching sessions, some of the workshops that I hold for my community.

whether it was producing these episodes and having guests on the episodes. But one thing that I began to notice was that people were collapsing play and rest into one thing. That oftentimes we'd be be talking about play and they would be talking about rest. And I was like, this is really curious to me because play is often restorative for me, but it's very rarely restful. And what I realized is that I think that play and rest sit opposite of work and labor. And so we tend to collapse those two because they're both not doing work. But they're also very different things. And this really matters because sometimes I think that we reach for play and we think that we're getting rest and you can still end up feeling depleted.
Danielle McGeough 2:46
In fact, I'm laughing that July is all about rest because I don't think that my July is going to be very restful. I think that I'm going to have little slivers of rest, but I I think it's going to be a little bit wild. Fun side note for those of you that have been in my orbit, my husband and I have been obsessed with the idea of getting a camper van. And we are not campers. We have never gone to a campsite together and set up camp. We have camped in the backyard and tents. We've camped in the three-season room with tents. We have camped on our couch in a tent, but we've not we're not really like camp people. We love hiking. We love being outdoors. We love going places and so I don't know we got it in us that we needed to get a camper van and we looked at C classes.
Danielle McGeough 3:42
It's so funny. My son is 10 and he's is that an A class? Is that a C class? Oh that's a B plus vehicle. It's so funny because he's listened to us talk about it so much. We've driven places to look at vehicles. We've spent way too much time in camper world. We've gone back and forth Between should we get a Traver trailer, should we get a C class? Should we get a camper van? And we landed on a camper van. And actually, as I am recording this, we have bought a camper van named Griswold, who is very charming. And loved. And wildly spacious for camper van. But I also think might be a little used. May give us some adventures that aren't the ones that we've been imagining, but it was the ones that we could afford.
Danielle McGeough 4:27
And so we're really excited. We're gonna be flying out to California to pick up Griswold. We haven't told it even told the kids yet. We have a fun way that we're gonna surprise them. So I'll have to update y'all. But we're gonna fly out to California to pick up Griswold and we are going to drive Griswold back.
