Welcome to the Rise of the Trades podcast, the show dedicated to helping you to build, grow and scale your trades or construction business. All rise for your host, Craig Wilkinson. Welcome to this week's coaching episode of the Rise of the Trades podcast, where we help trades and construction business owners to skyrocket leads, explode net profits without having to graft 60 hours a week and becoming that busy fool. In this episode, I'm going to be teaching you why your marketing isn't working and why you're not generating leads, but also how to fix it in three simple steps. Now I'd first like to start off by saying if this is the first time you're listening to one of my episodes, welcome, I'm glad you're here.
And if you're one of our avid listeners that tune in every single Wednesday morning to get your weekly fix on motivation, knowledge and coaching, thank you for listening. Could I ask you a favor? And that is if you're getting value from my podcast episodes, could I please ask you to hit either the subscribe or the follow button on whatever channel or platform you're listening to this episode on right now? Because the more people that do that will help the algorithm acknowledge that we've got a popular episode and therefore it's going to push it out to more tradesmen and women that need our help and support. Now let's transition over to this week's coaching episode.
Now in this episode, we're going to be talking about something that I hear all the time and I mean it all the time. I get messages, I get emails, I get comments left of people saying to me, Craig, I need more leads and I need them quick. What can I do right now to start generating more leads? I need them. And I get it and I understand why. When you're running a trades business, when the diary's looking a bit empty or you've not got a great deal of work booked in in front of you, panic stations and pressure starts to kick in. You've got wages to pay. You've got overheads and you've got your vans on finance. You've got materials to buy. Your family's relying on you. You've got... commitments that you need to be paying for, and then all of a sudden work starts to dry up and you start worrying, flipping heck, I've got all this to pay out, but I've got no leads coming in.
That means I'm going to have a big gulf and a big drop in work. So naturally, your brain automatically defaults to what's the quickest way I can generate more leads. And this is where the problem starts. Because what most people are looking for is some kind of quick win, some kind of magic wand, some kind of silver bullet when they come to marketing. And they'll be saying, listen, can Craig just teach me how to run Facebook ads? Or what type of post do I need to put on social media? Or what tweaks do I need to make to my website or landing pages? Or what's the latest AI hack that's suddenly going to get the phone ringing? But here's the truth, and I am going to be straight with you. There is no such thing as a quick win when it comes to marketing or any type of win in your business.
It just doesn't work like that.
Why isn’t my marketing generating leads right now?
You don't just wake up one morning, throw something online, and then suddenly your diary is full, your phone starts ringing, and your book loads and loads are working. It just doesn't work like that. But the thing is, most business owners actually do think it works like that. And if they just do one thing or tweak one thing or change one thing, a miracle's going to happen and leads are going to start flooding in. So if we're constantly chasing these quick wins, what you're actually doing is you're building your business on sand, right? It's not even on solid foundations. And when you build it on sand, every time you go quiet, you're going to panic. Every time you panic, you look for another quick fix.
And you end up stuck in a constant vicious cycle of feast or famine. One month I've got loads of work on, next month I've got hardly any work on. You're busy one minute, you're dead the next. And winging it instead of building it. So the first three questions I always ask somebody who's wanting to generate more leads are these.
