Oh, thank you for having me. Excited to be here.

Yes, I can't wait to talk all things laughter yoga and just whatever is going on because I know that Lately people have been feeling growing pains of, you know, whether they're transitioning into a new job or maybe it's a new relationship or there's just like a lot of change in the air right now. And I feel like we don't laugh enough. And so I can't wait to hear. what you have going on and please tell me a little bit about laughter yoga.
Rachel Frank 1:32
Yeah, thanks, Erica. Um, absolutely, totally feel that that the energy right now, it just feels very like potent. Like things are happening, things are changing, like the old ways are dying and like they're coming into this new, there's this new energy that's coming up to like this new world of energy. And I feel like for a lot of people, it becomes it's hard. So I think laughter is like one of the best ways to move through like challenge. challenges and change. But yeah, if you don't know what laughter yoga is, um, it's one of my favorite things, but it combines pranayama deep breathing with these laughter exercises. I was actually I discovered it in 2020 and I was actually doing um Academy of Breath.
Rachel Frank 2:14
I was doing a breath work uh certification and one of the other girls in the certification was um doing lafter yoga and I was like, what is this? Like I've never heard of it before. And so I started going to resume classes during 2020, like when things were really intense, like that summer. And I would go into the Zoom room with so much anxiety, so much stress, and I would leave just feeling so light, so happy. And it's always been so easy for me to laugh. Like I've just I'm a easy laugher. Like I'm just comes out of me. And so then I got certified in 2021. And yeah, I've been doing it ever since. But um, but yeah, so basically the I kind of just explained it a little bit more like what it is. So um it was discovered in nineteen ninety five by Dr.
Rachel Frank 2:59
Katari and he was studying all of the health benefits of laughter on the body. And it really um he was showing that like you know, 10 to 15 minutes of laughter a day like has profound effects on your body and the body doesn't know the difference between a fake laugh and a real laugh. So he started a joke club and it was for about two weeks he had a joke club. It started with five people, it grew to 50 people and they would just meet in the park and tell jokes and he got people to laugh and he was like testing their their bodies like the health benefits of everything. And then somebody told um an offensive or a dirty joke or something and some people got really mad and they shut the joke club down and he was just like, oh no, what can we do to keep people um sustained laughter?
Rachel Frank 3:42
Not just like a chuckle here and there, like get them to just laugh. So he created Laugh Yoga. And um it just there's about 60 foundational laughter exercises and you start with a warm-up, some deep breathing, some body movement. Um, I personally add like action like vinyasa yoga to one I teach. And then there's about 10 to 15 minutes in the middle of it um of like hearty laughter where you kind of do sort of childlike games like movements and like it's very silly, but it gets you to laugh. And when you're around other people, um, it's very contagious. So even if you're you don't think you can laugh, you'll notice when you hear other people laughing, you'll start to smile and eventually you'll end up laughing and and then it ends with a little meditation.
