We're going to get to Jim Acosta, our great Jim Acosta, in just a minute because he's near the White House. Michael Fanone is in Leesburg, Virginia. But I want to get straight now to Jolly, who's in the field.
Jolly, you're near the White House and there's some action going on. What's happening right now? So at first it was real quiet. It didn't seem like there was going to be a protest here. And then almost out of nowhere, several hundred, I would say five, six hundred people minimum, materialized down what used to be Black Lives Matter Plaza and marched all the way up to the White House. If you look at the fence behind me, I'll show you. The fence right here is actually around the White House. And this crowd marched up to the White House. It looks like they've got planned speakers. There's people speaking right now. Can you turn the camera horizontal for us, please? What's that? Can you turn the camera horizontal for us?
Yes. Thank you, sir. You got it. And so we got speakers speaking. We got a pretty large crowd. Security responded pretty quickly to it. I don't think they were planning on having anybody here. And so this is all around the White House. It's a pretty large crowd, somewhere between 500 and 1,000 people easy. All right. Jim Acosta, our other co-host today. Jim, take it away. What are you seeing? Yeah, I might be pretty close to where Jolly is. I am right next to St. John's Church. I'm standing right by Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C. We're just outside the fencing that's gone up around the White House complex, basically. We're outside Lafayette Square where you saw those George Floyd protests and the...
The cranked up batshit crazy response from the Trump administration during his first time in office when they fired tear gas, when they fired chemical bullets on the crowd during that time were basically in the same area. And as Jolly was just saying, I mean, I think there are a lot of people who are hoping there wouldn't be a lot of protests in D.C. today. But this is Washington, D.C. folks. And of course, they are going to show up. And so, as you can see behind me, there are, as Jolly was saying, probably hundreds of people in this portion of Lafayette Square that has not been fenced off by the Trump administration. But I mean, just over to the side, you can see, we just moved the camera out over here, this fencing that goes up.
all around Lafayette Square, all around the Andrew Jackson statue. I should say, you remember that from the last time around, guys, when there were concerns that the protesters might topple the Andrew Jackson statue. But basically, you're starting to see some of the signs starting to show up. Here's one right here that says, Americans fighting tyranny, 1776, 2025. Here's another sign that says, cowards in Congress, do your job, reign in your king. There's a lot of protest down here. Obviously, I mean, we should mention at the top, this is also the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. We commend all of the folks in the armed services for their service. But as you guys know, we've been talking about this for days.
Donald Trump has tried to co-opt all of this and make this part of his dictator birthday bash. And that is what has fueled these protests. And I think this is just the beginning of this only three o'clock right now. Julian, Don, imagine what this is going to be like over the next several hours. I suspect that this is going to keep building and building. And the question is going to become how the authorities respond to all of this, because they I suppose they were planning for it.
