So just this morning, 538 put Vice President Harris up by 2.1 points over her Republican rivals in national average. In averages for swing states, Harris leads in Michigan by two points, Pennsylvania by 1.1 point, Wisconsin by 1.8 point,
And is this just a honeymoon period? I don't know. Is she just in a honeymoon and everyone is loving on her and then they're going to turn against her? We'll see. Or will Harris only expand her lead over Donald Trump? So much to dig into. Fortunately, a fantastic panel here to help me break it all down. How has Kamala Harris' polling surge changed the 2024 race?
OK, so listen, this is what we're going to talk about. All right, everyone, we're going to do Frank Luntz's polling analysis that we're going to discuss the right wing smear campaign against walls. I don't know if you guys have heard about that, but it is it's real. And then Trump's imaginary helicopter crash that he's having to answer for. So that's where we're going to start. We're going to start with the polling. Frank Luntz. Now, Chaz and Amy, if you don't mind, I only have Frank for about 15 minutes. So I'd like to give him a chance to wax poetic about the state of the race and where the polling stands right now. But please, if you have some questions, if you want to interject, make sure you just jump in.
OK, everyone. All right. So, Frank. How is this race shaping up right now? On Wednesday of this week, you said that Kamala Harris is now the front runner. So why do you say that? And what do you see in the polling that convinces you that she is now the front runner?
Well, we saw this, I think earlier than anyone, because I'm doing focus groups every other day or every third day. And we specifically sat down people who are not supporting Harris, but had who are supporting Harris, but had supported Joe Biden. And that's a critical swing block. They tend to be women more than men, younger rather than older, people of color rather than white. And they are intense in their passion. The number one reason why they weren't supporting Biden was his age. The number two reason why they weren't supporting Biden was that they were looking for something different, something more, something more More solution oriented. And the reason why they've moved towards her is that there's energy, excitement, passion.
She's captured the zeitgeist in a way that even Barack Obama hadn't done as quickly as she's done. In two weeks time, she went from three or four points behind to even or a couple points ahead. And she's done so by energizing these groups that were not energized before. young women under age 30, African-Americans. She's bringing back young men who had been dabbling with Biden for a little bit. And people are simply excited because she offers something different.
