I'm going to dismiss with the formalities and shout everybody out because we have such a big show to get to. Good evening, everybody. Welcome to the Don Lemon Show. We have so much to dig in today, from Joy Reid's ouster to Elon Musk's terrorizing federal workers to the Renaissance movement seemingly revitalizing itself. over the weekend at a series of congressional town halls. Are people fighting back? What is going on? Are they summoning the courage to go up against this tyranny that is happening in Washington, D.C.? Donald Trump and the Doge guys. There's a great deal of discussion.
I'm grateful to have a very special guest here with me. It is an honor to have Congressman Eric Swalwell currently serving in California's District 14 in the House of Representatives. He's a former co-chair of the House Democratic Steering Committee and perhaps most importantly, is one of the few liberal lawmakers on the scene today who I think is waging a political messaging war that actually exists today. not the one that Democrats wish existed. He should be one of the examples. Thank you, Congressman. How are you doing? I'm good, man. I love the new show, too. And it's doing well. Yeah, extremely well, extremely well. So don't believe everything you hear or read. We're doing extremely well. And we're glad that we can be here in this independent media space.
And we're glad people like you understand the importance of independent media. And considering the role that we played in the past election, I'm glad that you get it. I had dinner with David Shore a couple of weeks ago, one of the pollsters. He said something that just blew my mind. He said, in 2020, Donald Trump won the election he won voters in 2020 who had not voted in the prior presidential election by five points. So they could have just skipped that election. They were new voters, et cetera. In 2024, he won voters who had not voted in the prior presidential election by 24 points. And his point was, you all need to Get away from mainstream media. People aren't going there in the next election. If you don't go there, it's to your peril because he is there and their movement is there.
Can you tell your colleagues, because we have so many people watching us. Our the number of folks who watch us are larger than the demo of cable news that they get every night. And so try to get your fellow colleagues to understand that because they don't. They're still just enamored with the patina of legacy media. I don't know why. Look at the folks as you are. We have our comments up on the screen, folks. Hello, Congressman. I'm a fan of your work. What's happening? Someone said Swalwell. Boom. And so and then you'll see some of the new members, OK, who are joining the Don Lemon show. There you go. Michelle Peace became a YouTube member today. So we are growing by leaps and bounds. Thank you very much for that.
Let's talk about what's happening, because I want to talk about what's happening with legacy media since you brought it up with linear media, because as you know. I'm sure you read the New York Times and you've seen it. Let's put it up. Joy Reid's show on MSNBC, one of the progressive voices. Her show was canceled in a major shakeup at the network. And there are other progressive voices on the network and many of them minorities who were affected by this change. What do you what do you make of this? Some people are seeing this as a purging of the more centrist and progressive voices in favor of. maybe pro-MAGA folks or people that they just want to tone it down because they are, you know, they're not pro-Trump.
Yeah. I love Joy Reid. I just absolutely love Joy Reid. I love going on her show. I love the team that she has. She has a lot of the former hardball team who are also so great. I don't know what the reasoning was behind it, but one thing that I'm going to miss that Joy brought – and reminded us every night was about the heroes of January 6th as Donald Trump and MAGA allies in Congress try and erase their heroism.
