It's right on the desk right there. So I interviewed a friend, a very dear friend today. I don't know if you guys, let me know if you've ever heard of Darren Walker. Darren Walker is the head of the Ford Foundation. He's stepping down and he has a book out and it's called The Idea of America, okay? Reflections on inequality, democracy, and the values we share.
And so the foreword is by President Bill Clinton. Michael Bloomberg also wrote something in here. Ava DuVernay and Henry Louis Gates on the jacket. OK. And so, I mean, this is he's a very serious guy and this is a serious, important book. So what I will say is that. I like learning things from people, and I learn a lot from Darren. I learned a lot in this interview today when we talked about America's history, the founding of the country, our past, our present, our future, and even the people who founded the country. Thanks, Tim. Even the people who founded the country. And it's that America has a very complicated history. We talked about Mr. Carnegie back in the day that he gave money to people of all different ethnicities and he wanted them to spend it on the things that were important to them.
So he gave money to black people and white people and all people, but he did not advocate for them to be in the same schools or that kind of thing. So it's complicated. Thomas Jefferson, complicated. All right. That's just the reality of it. And there's nothing we can do to change it. We have to accept it, but we have to teach people about it. And so we have a complicated relationship right now with in this country. We had a very pivotal moment where some of the rules, I believe, don't apply as they might have. I'm tired of losing. And again, I'm not a Democrat, but I'm tired of because Democrats are on the side of democracy. I'm tired of the bad guys winning. So sit back, and I want to hear from you guys.
You may disagree with me, or maybe I'll convince some of you. Maybe you won't. We'll have to agree to disagree at this point. Because I want to talk about the Democratic Party's favorite pastime right now, which is purity, right, which is self-punishment. Because once again in this moment, I feel that Democrats are debating whether to destroy one of their own.
