How did Alex Fevola cope with losing Mia’s father as a young mother?

Ella May Ding 0:00
Guys, welcome back to the Ella era. It's another week. It's another beautiful day here in Melbourne. I hope that you guys are all feeling amazing. My hay fever's through the freaking roof, but I still feel amazing. Now, wow, what a guest do we have today. And I am so excited for you guys to get stuck into it and to tune in. So she's one of the most quietly remarkable women in Australia, I would have to say. You guys would probably know her as Brendan Favola's wife, but that's honestly, I personally think, the least interesting thing about her. Alex Favola lost father of her firstborn daughter to suicide when she was just 22 years old. Now, Mia Favola was only four weeks old. And for those who don't know, I actually had Mia on my podcast maybe a couple of months ago.
Ella May Ding 1:07
So if you want to go back and listen, I'd actually recommend listening to hers because It was honestly really quite emotional, unexpectedly. And I learned a lot about Mia and her life, which then led me to getting Alex on. Now, Alex, you know, she opens up how she navigated a very public affair that she went through with Brendan and, you know, his gambling addiction and and how she's raised four daughters under relentless public scrutiny. She also wrote about four years ago now a bestselling memoir that thousands of women say changed their lives, which if you haven't read the book... It is unbelievable. She is so real, so honest, and also just so open about her entire life journey. I actually can't believe some of the things that she has been through and to still sit here directly in front of me, so beautiful, so calm, so pleasant to be around and so articulate with sharing her journey.
Ella May Ding 2:20
And she is honestly amazing. Quite amazing. So I hope that you guys enjoyed the conversation. I thoroughly did. And see you on the other side. I don't know why today, but I actually feel quite nervous having you, Mrs. Alex Favola. Oh, really?
Alex Fevola 2:40
Yeah.
Ella May Ding 2:41
And I don't know why. I think it's because I've met your gorgeous daughter and I've had her on the pod and I've read a lot about you recently and I've been, you know, seeing lots pop up. about your book and just your story. And I think, you know, I feel really honoured to have you today. Oh,
Alex Fevola 3:00
thank you.
Ella May Ding 3:01
I know that there are so many layers to you and your story and your journey, you know, whether it's from back in the days when you went through all of that loss and grief and then your marriage and then there's been an affair and then to rebuilding, to motherhood, to runway, like your journey has been very incredible.
Alex Fevola 3:28
Thank you. Yeah, it's been quite the journey. Yeah. But there's been just as much good as there is bad, I think.
Ella May Ding 3:36
Yeah. And even just sitting across from you and like telling you how young you are. Yeah. Because you are. You are very young to have
Alex Fevola 3:46
done. I don't
Ella May Ding 3:46
feel it. And you look it. You look fucking amazing. Like I hope when I'm your age and in your phase of life that I look as good as you do. Thank you. But I want to start with, and yeah, there's honestly so many places to go with chatting with you today. But I feel like let's start back when you were 22 years of age. So you were 22 years old when you had Mia. Yes. Which is young, right? I'm 30, just nearly 33, and I've just had my first baby. And I couldn't imagine having a baby 10 years ago. No,
Alex Fevola 4:25
it was a surprise. It wasn't a planned pregnancy, but it was a real turning point for me for so many reasons. But even though I didn't plan her, she was exactly what I needed at that time. And
Ella May Ding 4:42
I mean, I know... I know some of what has happened in your life because when Mia came on, she was really open with her perspective and her experience as well, which is amazing that I get to speak to you about yours. Now, I know that Mia's biological father, Lonnie, so he passed away when you were just four weeks postpartum. Yes. And he took his own life. That's right. And I know that Mia hadn't spoken about it that much up until maybe what the last sort of two years publicly.
Alex Fevola 5:16
Yeah, that's right. When she
Ella May Ding 5:17
went on I'm a Celebrity as well. And even for her to start to process it publicly and talk about it publicly, what was that like for you?
