Adam Cox 0:05
Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside access to cutting-edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine issues. Brought to you by the hypnotherapist demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox. These recordings took place live from Adams Clinton in London's world-famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist. Are you someone that believes that in order to have a good time, in order to enjoy yourself, in order to be in social situations, that you need to drink alcohol? If so, you are in the majority and not the minority. Most people believe that. And partly that comes from just the culture that we grow up in. Uh, it involves marketing, movies.

There's so many things that have alcohol as a key component of that thing. Think celebrations, weddings, birthday celebrations. Get-togethers, there's lots of things that alcohol is just always present. And what can happen is that people can confuse the idea that because alcohol is present, therefore it's necessary, or that it's actually the cause. It's very easy to confuse correlation with causality. And just because lots of moments have had alcohol. Alcohol there doesn't necessarily mean that that's the reason why fun was there or connection or whatever it might be. What this session does is it refutes the idea that alcohol is needed for fun, is needed for confidence, is needed for relaxation. And it uses a metaphor from the film or the uh cartoon.

Dumbo. So if you think of Dumbo, Dumbo elephant with big ears, um Believes that the black feather from the crow is what makes them fly and rather than their big ears. And you'll hear that metaphor without this, because flying can represent confidence and fun and relaxation and enjoyment. And the feather represents this idea that alcohol is needed for that thing. And it's quite a powerful metaphor. because when you experience life without alcohol. You then realize how much of the narrative that, oh, we need alcohol isn't true, but only when you come out the other end. And I'm coming up to eight years of not drinking alcohol. Uh, I was 40 years old when I made that decision. And I had a lot of beliefs that I couldn't enjoy certain things or I couldn't feel comfortable in certain environments unless I was drinking.
Adam Cox 3:03
And now I know that's absolutely nonsense. But you only know it when you have irrefutable evidence, if you have actual experiences of being in those situations without alcohol. So there's two parts of this. One is the idea, and then secondly, is the future pacing of imagining first and then actually doing situations that normally you'd be drinking but without alcohol. Now, the client I was working with here um had decided to permanently change their relationship with alcohol. They've been at least a month without alcohol, your situation might be different. It might be that you want to continue to drink, but you want to drink less. Or it might be that you don't drink, but you don't want to feel like you're missing out because you're not drinking.

Your situation might be different to the client.

Why do many people think alcohol is necessary for fun, confidence, and celebration?

Adam Cox 3:49
So I would encourage you to hone in on any suggestions that feel useful and positive, and also to ignore anything that isn't quite right for you. And if you like the idea of a bespoke session with me, so we work together rather than you listening to a recording that I did for someone else, then you can either go to my website, adamcox.co.uk, or you can visit the link in the show notes where you can find out. Find out more about me or book a discounted consultation call because you are a listener of the podcast. Um for now though, you might get some value from this session. So I would encourage you to uh find a quiet, comfortable place, the kind of environment where you're not going to be interrupted, distracted, or disturbed to relax and enjoy the session.

Take. A deep breath in. And as you breathe in. Breathe in that slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale. Just allow. A natural, effortless breath to leave your body.
