Welcome into another edition of Huddle Up with Bucky Brooks, J.P. Shavick, John Ogier from the Miller Electric Center at the Hyundai Studios in Jacksonville. Bucky Brooks in Los Angeles, California. And at long last, guys, at long last, there is Jaguars news this week. It's been a long time coming, Buck. For a long time coming, it's the offseason. I mean, this is what we do. We're just kind of laying in the cut, set out free agency mostly. The draft is still a month away. So, yeah, there has been a lot to talk about.
It's been a great offseason. A great offseason. And I always say that because, again, I am completely comfortable with not making splash moves. It's about time. It's about time this franchise got back to not – I think it was Liam who said somewhere that Shad had mentioned somewhere that if we could keep the coaches out of the building during free agency, we could save a lot of money in this league. And there's some truth to that statement. There really is some truth to that statement of just silly spending this time here. But I digress. We're on to other things. But, yes, it's been a wonderful offseason.
Well, we've got plenty to get to today. The Jaguars will be playing in Orlando in 2027 officially. We'll have a review of Wednesday's press conference coming up from down in Orlando, and we'll hear from Jags owner Shad Khan. But also this week, NFL annual meeting at the Biltmore in Phoenix, Arizona, including... The AFC coaches breakfast earlier this week. Liam Cohen, Jaguars head coach, asked how the Jaguars handled success going into year two.
Something we need to be guarded against as a staff and as an organization is we have a lot of room to improve. We need to get better and improve, and that may not be 13 wins. I don't know. I can't say that. I don't know what those results are, but I know if we're chasing those results... We're not going to be living in the moment. We're not going to get the best version of ourselves every day. And so when we get back to this with less time as a coaching staff, with less time with the players as not a new coaching staff, we need to be as intentional as ever with the way that we attack each day, be as clear and concise with the players when they come back in about what that looks like and how it's going to get done, and we've got no time to waste.
That's Liam Cohen earlier this week, John. Hey, Bucky, I think that's an important point. Look, I kind of believe and I've covered a couple of extended runs of success. The Jaguars in the 90s, I was with the Colts when they won seven or eight, you know, made the playoffs seven or eight years in a row and won 12 a bunch of times. There's other franchises that do this. Jaguars haven't done it in a long time. But I think this franchise is capable of it with Liam and Trevor and a couple of the core pieces. And I think it's an important point that Liam made that we can talk about. 13-4 probably won't happen every year. But if you're having to run a success like that, you've got to have a couple of years where you get through it.
I don't know if they'll win 13 or 14. They may have a tough stretch next to your injuries. But if you ever run like that, 11 and 6, 12 and 5, getting in and making a run, those shouldn't be considered unsuccessful. If you get in, if you're 11 or up. The number within that, yes, 15 is better than 11, JP. I don't know if you know that or not. 15 is more than 11.
Well, it depends on what you're counting.
It's true. But the point is, the idea is to get in every year. 13 may not happen every year, but 11 and 6, 12 and 5, that's successful, and you have to pull those off to have a long run.
Yeah, I really like this. I think it's a very mature approach from Liam to throw out the record and not really focus on the results. and just talk about the process and kind of stick to what they've been talking about the entire time.
