Good morning, happy Thursday and welcome to Jags AM from the Hyundai Studios inside the Miller Electric Center. I'm Brian Sexton. John Osier is alongside as is coach Mark Duffner. Let's get right into our big things and the question this week is how will the Jaguars respond? First regular season loss since last November. The fourth quarter didn't go very well for this football team and everyone wants to know how it's going this week. Josh Heinz Allen in the locker room yesterday offered this response.
Yeah, practice, we flew around today. A lot of competitive reps out there, offense and defense. So I feel like we're responding well to the adversity that we've dealt with last week. But we moved on, and we're focused on the Patriots. And every day is an important day for us, and we're just looking forward to Sunday.
It's a week to weekly John. The team is going to have to respond. And when you look at the things that they have done offensively, coming home would seem to be a great opportunity for them last week. Not so good 13 points, but you look at the previous 11 games. The Jaguars have played very well.
Yeah, they need to get back to what they were offensively. The worrisome thing when I look at this game is this is a tough team to get healthy against. I mean, the Patriots play really good defense. They're really smart. They're the kind of team that makes you play clunky. That was sort of the Jaguars' issue last week. So there are some teams in this league that if you play well, you're going to beat them. Patriots, you can play well and not beat them. So it's a great test, Duff. It's a really, really good team that figures out a way to win. And this Jaguars' offense that has been so smooth, don't be surprised if it's not smooth, but they need big plays to win this game.
There's no question about that. And this defense, as you just talked about right now, is hitting its stride. I mean, they manhandled Pittsburgh in the game they played recently against them. They're a team right now that pressures like crazy. The defense will operate with three- and four- and five-man rush, fire zones. So they try to make life uncomfortable for the quarterback, and they've done a good job of that. Allowed really one touchdown in the two ballgames so far. So a very aggressive group that will be well coached.
Jaguars coming home in the offense under the quarterback, especially the last four regular season games, has been very productive here at Everbank Stadium. He has 15 touchdowns, 14 of those passing, no interceptions, and his passer rating 134.6, so perhaps the Jaguars' offense can get back on track. And the Jaguars offer a strong response to last week's defeat in Denver. Our second big thing is to spread the wealth. It's been well chronicled around here this week. that Jacoby Myers has just three targets and Brenton Strange has just five, while Brian Thomas, who had a couple of big drops last week, has had eight. Perhaps it's time to make sure that some of the other guys get involved in the offense.
The quarterback responded this way.
They're a huge part of our offense, so that's going to be obviously important. And there's stuff every... It's not like we've been avoiding throwing the ball in the plan. I felt like the last two weeks we've had stuff in the plan for them. So... You know, we got a game to play Sunday and I'm not going to I'm not going to lay off the game plan up here in front of everybody else. But it's important. And those guys are great players. And I think that they both I know they both understand the role they have in our offense and Coach,
the ball's going to go where the ball's going to go. I mean, defenses can take guys away. But we saw last week that the Broncos made a special effort to get Jalen Waddell involved, and he provided 138 yards. You see the targets there. How do you think the Jaguars respond this week? Can they get Jacoby Myers involved, regardless of what the New England Patriots do defensively?
I think absolutely. You know, really in the first game against Cleveland, nine different people got the ball.
