It is June 18th. Lagerman and Lane for the final time. The offseason program is coming to a close. Well, it's already come to a close. This building is empty. There's like tumbleweeds going through the hallway here. After it ended yesterday, NFL and Jaguars legends attending practices and meetings this week. We'll get into some of that and the reasoning behind some of the changes from head coach Liam Cohen the last two weeks of the offseason program. And now the focus... after a few weeks off, is toward training camp at the end of July.
We're on 1010XLAM, Jaguars.com, Jaguars YouTube for the final time until training camp. It's J.P. Shadrick with Jeff Lagerman and Austin Lane. Gents, good afternoon. How are we doing? How are we doing? Good, man. Welcome in. Welcome back. It's been a few weeks, Austin.
It's been a little bit, yeah. I've been all about it. Just got back from the World Cup in Boston. Took part in that, so that was a good time. But, yeah. Saw Norway?
How would you compare the atmosphere at a World Cup game to an NFL game?
Yeah, you know, I mean, obviously the in-stadium atmosphere, it was insane.
Who was the matchup?
So it was Norway and Iraq. And Norway, it's their first time in 26 years making the World Cup. And I'm half Norwegian, so I had to go celebrate and represent and everything. And they're out there in full effect. Iraq was also out there in full effect. Norway wins 4-1. The atmosphere obviously was crazy because it was half Norway, half Iraq. And then there's some casuals sprinkled in as well, just wanting to see a good game. But what really caught my attention was after. I had to wait two hours for the train. And everybody from Iraq and Norway getting together, singing songs, just talking, shooting the you-know-what. That, to me, is what made it so special, was all these cultures coming together and just sharing stories and sharing songs and everything.
Because in football, if the Jaguars beat the Titans at the field here, you're not going to put your arm around a Titans fan after and sing songs, right? You're probably going to come to blows. It could happen. Yeah, it could definitely happen. And everybody's sober as a judge, too. Yeah, exactly. To be fair, there's a lot of basic beverages being tossed around at this game as well. Yeah, but it's a different experience, man. It's so cool that when it was over, everyone kind of got together and was just trying to drink and be merry, I guess you would say. And it makes you wonder, like... If you had the Super Bowl every four years, maybe the stands would be that crazy and wild. But obviously with football here, you've got to do it year-round.
So who won? So Norway ended up winning 4-1. 4-1. Blowout. Yeah, blowout for sure. Soccer terms, that's a blowout. That's like the equivalent of what, like a 65-0 game in the NFL? Yeah, 28-0. 28-0.
Love that. Yeah. Hey, looking forward to that. Obviously, the next month or so, World Cup going on, which is fun to see this summer now that all these other sports have wound down. Are you a World Cup fan? It's on. It's something on TV. I like watching it. I like watching it.
Jeff would watch every game.
You know what? I'm a casual fan. Sure. I mean, when it's on, I actually watch it. Cool. But, no, I mean, I just can't get into... football as much as I can American football. It's just, you know, when I was in grade school, I actually, we had a PE period. I'll never forget it. It was the worst grade I ever had in school. I mean, how in the world does an athlete get it? I actually got an F. In that grading period. What was it on? It was during the soccer. It was soccer during that particular grading period. And there was a test that I completely forgot about. And so I didn't study.
