Chapter 1: What are the highlights of the Jaguars' season?
A great Jacksonville Jaguars season is over. This is Teal Talk in partnership with Gallagher. I'm Jay Lawrence, no relation. He's Kiram Suran. Jason Bell here as well to look back at the narrowest of wildcard defeats to the Buffalo Bills. and an AFC South winning season. So on the podcast today, we're going to drop in on the London Watch Party.
It was an amazing night, despite the result, to hear from some fans, with myself, with Rhys Parkinson as well, and from a couple of British fans who made the trip over to Duval County for the game as well. Lots to do in what is our last Teal Talk of the season. We're back in the off-season with all the Jags summertime activity, but first... Opening statements. Key, Jason, how much does it hurt?
Go on, Jason.
I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted. I had a lot of emotions tied up in that game. And I tried to stay a neutral fan, especially when doing live broadcast. But I couldn't. I wore a green blazer. I had green Nikes on. I was invested. I was totally invested. And I saw the opportunity. It was there. I mean, it was there to be had.
And I also saw the game plan, and I also saw exactly what I feared most, which was fourth quarter Josh Allen. That being said, what a year. You have to applaud this team for what they've done, who they've become, and I'm very optimistic for the future. But as a fan, I would lie to say I was not just mentally and emotionally exhausted.
I think that's a really good way of putting it. Emotionally exhausted, Key.
Yeah, a couple of days removed now with some clarity. This is so dramatic. With some clarity and being able to reflect on it. I actually am framing this whole season very, very, very positively. Sunday night hurt, obviously. Really hurt. Because I think we had the talent to go... to go all the way. I think we had the talent to go all the way and to not do that is, is obviously gutting.
However, two days later, you're able to go, do you know what? Look at what we did this season from where we came from last season. Look at what we did. That can only be, let's look to next season. That can only be onwards and upwards, man, because what, what a season we had that can only be moving forwards. It can only be better.
Yeah, and I also think that the enthusiasm and the atmosphere of Jags fans is just... It is completely different, as you say, as it was to... Not even last year, but even a few months ago, when it's almost like... this doesn't have to be a one season good season or even like, you know, a great second half of the season. That's not it. No, no.

Chapter 2: How do fans feel after the wildcard loss?
Jang's going to run it back. Jang's going to run it back. And J-Bell, you know, Trevor Lawrence, you can't underestimate the step up that he has had this season with Liam Cohen either.
Well, that relationship has definitely borne some fruit. You can see it. They're confident within each other, and that's the main thing. You want your play caller and your quarterback to see the game the same way, and you saw that happen. It accelerated quite fast. So going into next year,
Trevor's going to have complete command of this offense and faith and trust in what Liam Cohen's vision is for him and the next year. So, yeah, you wanted to see this relationship turn out the way it has, and Trevor Lawrence plays well. That was a question mark on the season. What does the quarterback look like? Is he the guy we thought he should be? And that has turned out to be true.
Key, you're so right. If they win this game, their path to the Super Bowl looks crispy, man.
I saw on your predictions, J-Bell, that you had the Jags in the Super Bowl, didn't you?
Yeah, but this was a hard game. This was a hard game. I was very uncomfortable about this, but I knew, hey, if we pull this off, the path is pretty smooth. I didn't like the matchup versus the Texans. I was a little scared of that, too, but this was the game.
Well, let's get into the game a little bit more in a moment. But first, let's do, for the last time this season, Jason's five points.
Okay, okay.
The Jags suffering a heartbreaking wildcard defeat to Buffalo. Where was the game lost?

Chapter 3: What were the key moments in the game against the Bills?
Which Jaguar leaves with head held highest?
You know, Parker Washington's the man. Parker Washington, he really changed this team. It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out next year with Travis Hunter back. man, Parker, you just feed him the rock, man. He makes it happen. Two phases of the game, man. This guy's, I mean, when you can do what he does on special teams and as a slot receiver, he became the number one target.
Let's be honest.
Who else stepped up for the team?
I mean, I got... You know, I keep saying, I keep thinking about this question, and because it's a loss, I just look at what the head coach did, man. I just I'm like when you talk about a shift of a team and the way they played and the resolve and the attitude and the effort, man, I just look at I just I look at the both coordinators. Actually, I like what they both did.
So, you know, in a loss, I just want to give it overall to Liam Cohen to what he did for this team this season.
What was the turning point of a key moment?
It was that chunk play, man, for me, you know, big play down the field. Brandon Cooks. That was it, man. We had it right then and there. That was the moment, man. And as a defensive back, man, that's how it is. It's always that one play, just like an offensive tackle, giving up a big sack or quarterback throwing interception. That was a play to me. And what next for Jacksonville?
I mean, let's just chill out. Just relax. You know, the season's hard, man. The season's hard. It's long. You know, you should be proud of yourself. The franchise, the fan base, you motivated everybody. Everybody was invested. That's what you want to do, man. That's what it's about. This game is about entertainment. You got to entertain the fans. They sacrificed so much to support.

Chapter 4: Who were the standout players for the Jaguars this season?
So we can get to a philosophical debate about this. But when you talk about that situation, your quarterback just should have ran over somebody. Trevor shouldn't have slid.
Why aren't we kicking for the three points there? And it's happening across the league where more and more teams are going for it on fourth down.
You know, this is a scoring league. Who are you playing against? You're playing against, I can only say the matchup, right? In the matchup, because this is why they make their decisions. They're not making the decisions out of the air. They're not saying, this is what the league is doing, so we're going to do it. They're saying, all right. This game, this is how they play.
So this is how we need to play and adjust and do certain things. If your defense is just manhandling somebody, why would you do that? You would punt, back them up, let it happen if they can't score on offense, right? But if they have an explosive offense, especially in the fourth quarter, you're thinking you got to make it happen. You can't sit back. So that's why those decisions are made.
It's an overall game planning thing. So not every... If you're not confident... And your ability to stop the offense every single time or say you just had a quick three and out or something and you just need to try to sustain a drive. It's all that kind of stuff. So the art of it is the feel from the head coach on the environment that you're calling that play.
Like what is the reason you're calling it on that down and distance? And that's what we get to evaluate on Monday. So in my point of view, it was the right call for that game.
The thing is, is we can look back on where we can look back at the game and say, oh, well, if this happened or if this didn't happen and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, then maybe the Jags would have won. But it's all relative and everything that happens before dictates what happens after as well. So it doesn't it's not quite as easy as that, is it?
So you could say, for example, if Trevor got that first down. If Cam Little hadn't missed that field goal right at the end of the first half.
There's always ifs when it comes to the actual playing of the game. But sometimes for me, with decision making, I feel like I'm seeing more and more coaches go, let's go for it on fourth down. And we're forgetting that it's possible to kick a field goal and take three points.

Chapter 5: What was the atmosphere like at the London watch party?
I just watched it. He's not confident in blocking that guy. That guy is manhandling my guy. Or my dude is pushing him out of the way three downs in a row. We're going to run it. He's beating him up. So all those kind of things come into the equation, but that is the art of being a head coach. Situation, where's your team, all of that.
I think that what makes this loss probably hurt more from a Jags fan perspective is it really felt like the AFC was open. It was wide open. The one thing that I would say, and let's just get your two takes on this before we move to the predictions, which was not good for me. This doesn't need to be that one year that the Jags had.
There is all chance, all likelihood that there will still be opportunities over the next few years. I don't think we're in a situation now where the Chiefs are the, they are getting to the championship game. They are getting to the Super Bowl. We are in a situation where there are now teams that can try and fill that void. And J-Bell, I think the Jags could be one of them.
They can. Now this is on the leaders in the locker room. What do I mean by that? When you go into your off-season workouts, how do you go about your business? How do you train? When you practice, what's the intensity like? What's the focus? Are you thinking about the mistakes that were made that you can correct? Because now you understand the fine margins.
So now the leaders are like, hey, we can't allow this to happen in practice because it beat us here. And you start to develop that muscle, that way you go about your business. That's what the great teams do. It starts day one. And like I said, your leaders, which you have good leaders in that locker room. You got good players that work hard, which is the key.
Your money, your players that make the most money work hard. And that helps a lot. But you got to go about your business every single day thinking about those moments and how the next time when you face them, they're not going to defeat you.
I don't want to, but I feel like we should move on to the predictions. None of us predicted a Buffalo Bills win. Thinking about it, I don't know. This isn't really like, you know, part of the... Don't be that guy, Joe. I should have. And I'll tell you why I should have. I'm glad that you didn't. I'll tell you why I should have. We'd have held it against you.
Because tactically, if I wanted to win, this is probably what I should have done. It's not how I roll, especially not in the playoffs, especially not in the playoffs. So our Predictions League has finished. Jay Lawrence, no relation, on 14 points.
Very respectable, Jay.

Chapter 6: How did the Jaguars' coaching impact the season?
So hang on, that's how many above you is that?
That's two points, we'll get over it. Two points, we'll get over it. Okay. However... The mini Trevor Lawrence figurine headed to North London. Can you get some stamps? Send it off. And it does make sense, let's be honest. Former NFL player, Jason Bell, 17 points in our predictions league. Jason, I want you to pretend, well, not pretend, let's get up to the podium.
You've just accepted your predictions honour. This is our version of the Oscars, our Golden Globes. What do you have to say? Who do you have to thank?
Well, as I come to the stage, I just high-five my friends. That's what I'm doing right now, high-fiving my people. But then I come there, and this is the main thing. I'm not like Jay Lawrence, no relation, because this is a somber victory. I know I'm walking away with something, but I wanted to walk away with something more. I wanted to win. That's what I wanted.
But in all honesty, you know what? It's all about us as a group. This is a group award because throughout the season, we together sat here, broke it down, wore our hearts on our sleeves, went out there like true fans, and picked our team. No matter what! No matter what. There was no second guessing. And the entire season, we rode the wave. We rode the wave. You know what I'm saying?
And we didn't even have a wetsuit on. We were out there in the cold. It didn't matter. We made it happen. Early morning surfing with the old guys. You know how hard that is? It's difficult. It's not for everybody. And we did it. So I want to congratulate us in our effort. And I want to congratulate the Jacksonville Jaguars for giving us a season we will remember and a point to catapult off of.
That's it. This was the starting point. We're going to talk about this next year, and we're going to see all the little changes and tweaks because of the hard work they've done. Congratulations to us, fellas.
The music wasn't even playing you off yet.
Hey, man, I had it in my head, though, man.

Chapter 7: What are the expectations for the Jaguars next season?
And I went to. The atmosphere was amazing.
Oh, I saw that. Yeah, we piped into that a couple of times. That was cool.
You did. And I got a bunch of texts. I was in the background. So I just saw you in the background.
We piped in a couple of times, man.
Yeah, it was a great atmosphere, honestly. The whole pub just basically just covered in teal. So many Jags fans. And it was amazing actually speaking to so many Jags fans as well and just, you know, hearing their stories, actually, and hearing how they became Jags fans and their favourite players. So myself, Reece Parkinson, we caught up with some of the fans.
Let's go!
Hi guys, sorry for interrupting. You guys are Jags fans? Where are you from? Jacksonville. Have you come from Jacksonville just to watch it here at the bar?
No, I actually live here. But yeah, I'm from Jags. Have you been surprised by how many Jags fans there are here in the UK and all of that? Yeah, I was floored. I'd love to see it. I honestly thought it was going to be a lot smaller than this, but this is an incredible showing. So it's been good. What's your name? JT. JT. Thank you, JT.
OK, guys, I'm going to need your favourite Jags player right now. Etienne. Travis Etienne.

Chapter 8: What prizes were awarded at the predictions league?
What's your thoughts?
This season's been a good season. I feel like this has felt different than any other season. We say that every year. We say Jags to the Super Bowl, but this year feels real.
Have you felt the Jacksonville vibes then today? Oh, I live with Jacksonville, so yeah, today and every other day. So is there any chance that you were a Jacksonville Jaguars fan before you met each other? No, but I didn't get given a choice.
Did you know the Jacksonville Jaguars before you met?
No, I did. We met at university out there. So you went to a university in? In South Carolina. So who's been your favourite player this season then? Trevor Lawrence, I guess, is the obvious archer. He's my quarterback in the Fantasy League that I play in. There's been a fumble. And if the Jags got it, or have the Bills got it, Greenwood is going to erupt if it's the Jags' ball.
And it's a two! Wow! Let's go!
Okay. Unbelievable play. Unbelievable play. How did you become a Jags fan?
This is my most prized possession. Okay. Signed ETN jersey, yeah.
So I don't need to ask you your favorite Jags player, then?
