What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Uh you start we can all start with this lamb. Um do you expect starters to play at all after the joint practice?
Why are starters being held out after the joint practice on Day 11?
Uh no, not in week one, for sure.
We have a couple of guys on this time who talked a little bit.
Uh yeah, you just get thin, you know, you get thin, you start it gets putting more reps on on other guys that may not be truly prepared for the amount of reps that they then have to take, um, which as you could see today thins out a little bit of the groups, uh your twos are more so mixed of like threes and fours and you know, it just kind of gets a Little bit thinned out unfortunately.
How does that impact maybe what you'll do with the Saints?
Well Hopefully get somebody back before that, you know, one of the guys. Um but I mean the ones uh we're planning on getting the majority of the work anyway in the joint. So hopefully we can survive with like the ones and twos getting the majority of the joint and then uh, you know, the younger guys give 'em a little bit of a break so that they can play in the game.
Uh you know, I just think that it's a it's a controlled environment that you can uh you're still getting physical work but you're you're thudding st you know, you're not tackling to the ground. Um not as many like blind shots and hits that guys maybe aren't gonna see. Um and then just in a game uh setting, you obviously that that occurs right m much more and um where we're at right now especially from a health standpoint we can't really afford to go into a game and just like let them roll and see what that would look like from an injury standpoint and so yeah I just think it's a more controlled setting you practice against you know pros that know how to practice and you're with doing it with coaches that um stress the same things of taking care of one another and let's be pros about this.
I think that that's when you can feel comfortable about going and doing that.
When you're you know, thinned out like today, how does that kind of impact
How you assess, you know, the practice, you know, whether it's from the rest of the offense or the look the defense is getting. Yeah, I thought the defense came out with more energy and better mindset and mentality. Um I thought the offense uh skill players, obviously, and um some of the pass game stuff was was good. Um, but you know, they kind of took the fight to us, uh, to the offense in the run game today. Um I thought they did it. Albert Regis had a better day. Um, you know, Armstead showed up again. You know, when those guys are coming off the rock and setting edges like they've been, whether it's on the perimeter or inside. I mean we're the number one run defense in the NFL, so it's like, you know, it's not gonna always be perfect.
You're expecting the defense to do some good things, even though it pisses me off at times. This hasn't been a more physical camp than last year, right? It's been pretty pretty much the same way. I'd say it's probably similar, you know, at this point. Um I think that you you got a couple guys, I mean we got ankle, you know, we've got like a couple, not a ton of um like injuries that would maybe pop up from hitting, more so like the general soft tissue hammy stuff, right? groins and things like that that are gonna you know, you guys see popping up all over the NFL right now. Thank you know, thankfully we haven't had a ton of like big, big ones, right? Knock on wood and um it's just these are the times of of the year it ac it happens, it occurs.
Like we were supposed to do more today and if I felt good about how they came out, I was gonna cut we were supposed to do four minute today, you know, and like go, hit Bang, another form uh run, run, run, run, run. And um, you know, the way that those guys came out on on defense, you know, I'm at the end of the day I'm the head coach, I gotta be happy with something.
What has surprised you most about your defense for what you've seen in
camps so far? I think um the the communication in the back end's been good where you have like you have a little new, right?
