What
was your overall assessment? It's definitely stuff we can get better at, but kind of going into the game, it's about assignment ball and arriving violently. I think we did that. I was able to kind of predict how the game was going to go with their runs and runs in the boots and then eventually their RPO game. So we felt like key-wise, we were on top of things. Communication-wise, we were on top of things. But we can definitely play a lot of plays better, but we took the ball away. That's always a testament. I think we stopped the run pretty well. They had to start kind of throwing it and then just things that we can always clean up, though. But I like the way we hustled and I like the standard we're setting to start off the season.
And speaking of taking the ball away, you got
the big interception to start the game on the first drive.

I mean, it was driving, so I'm happy I caught it. Yeah. It was cool. I don't know what to tell you. It was fun, though. I liked starting off the defense the right way, getting the offense a better field position, going in to score the touchdowns, so complimentary football. But that's just the way we play team ball here. I think Ventura had a great blitz to kind of get them off the spot. Now my three is kind of in the backfield. I was able to play off the quarterback. You know, catch them once they throw you, you have a hell of a year.

So it was nice. You've
been working on the hands, so it was a pretty good catch.
I used to be a receiver in high school all state, same as Missouri. No, I'm happy I caught it, because as I get older, I have to take more and more stuff on my hands. So I caught it. So I'm happy I did that. How
about Ben Trow? How do you feel like he played next to you?
Oh, he's great. We're communicating. We watch a lot of film together now. We're able to communicate a lot of the looks. He's the missile, right? So I get to play off of him when we're diagnosing what we're seeing. Mid-play, we're talking. He played well, and I told him to keep doing that for his confidence himself. But, you know, you keep doing that. They're going to have to tell you what you're in. He played very well, so let's keep stacking off of that, and let's keep building off each other.
You guys, you're proud of the way you came out, considering you hadn't played a rep in the preseason. There was some curiosity about that. I'm sure even you're wondering a little bit how you're going to come out.
Right. Usually I get a couple drives in the preseason, just kind of get used to calling it, tackling it, and all that stuff.
How did the lack of preseason reps affect the defense’s preparation?
I hit the tackle dummy a lot this week, but you can't replicate you know, playing the live reps. So I'm happy that we just came out with the juice and really tackling is going to be a team thing. Everybody owning the leverage, take your shot and know your brother is going to come back, back you up if you miss it. I think the way that we just play with the right energy and came out with physicality that we preached all offseason, kept building it up to this first game with show today. But we got to keep doing. We got a war next week and we know how physical that team is and reading the keys and everything. But we got to do it twice to win that next game.
Coach is always talking about having something to improve upon, but the performance was pretty solid. What do you think they're going to find that you might need to do better?
We'll watch the tape and see. They've got to find that out. So I'm going to find it out as well. I have some things in my mind, but I want to watch the tape and make sure they're right. But we always know we should get better as the season goes. This next game is a big game, and I'm already kind of thinking about it. But we've got to come out with the right energy and the right execution on our plays in order to come out with a win.
