Did the Jaguars’ practice week build the right energy and focus for Week 1?

Unknown 0:03
All right. I how'd you feel about the team's uh attention this week? I mean the energy and practice, was it where it needed to be? Yeah,
Liam Coen 0:10
I I think so. Um I thought the guys, you know, went through the process of the work week the right way, game planning. Um the intentional work, the the attention to detail. Uh I thought they did a nice job of of working through the work week and and kind of getting back into that flow. It's a little bit of a different flow than training camp. Um and obviously OTAs and all that. There's just uh a lot more detail that goes into each day, a lot more um true focus and and not being able to just all right take a rep to take a rep, right? Like every single rep that we take within the course of a week is extremely important. And for the guys that aren't getting those reps to be extremely locked in and focused uh to take those mental reps.
Liam Coen 0:56
I I've been pleased with the way the guys have come out this week.
Unknown 0:59
Prepare for a little first game, I don't know if anxiety is the right word, nerves, rust from the from guys. Uh first one back at it. No,
Liam Coen 1:06
you know, I think you assume and and understand it's it's probably not gonna always be perfect. Like you you have to go into it knowing um that yeah, it may not always be perfect, but it does have to be violent and it does have to be physical. Um and to make you know, we're all gonna make mistakes, try to make them at a million miles an hour um and go play the next play. Like that's the mindset and mentality, is trying not to focus. focus on some of the anxieties or some of the things that could come up where a every player, every coach is aware of those things in game one, but um you try to just go and let these guys go play and and and move on.
Unknown 1:45
I didn't look for the last two days. Is that still a plan to take it up to get active sooner? Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
Liam Coen 1:49
Absolutely.

How are the Jaguars managing rookie anxiety and nerves before their first game?

Liam Coen 1:49
I think he's really done some nice things over the last few days, especially, uh, putting himself into some, you know, compromising positions and going through um some hot practice days out here and getting some good work in. So uh been pleased with him. I know he's confident, he's starting to really feel better and better each and every day. And so we will definitely take that up to game time.
Unknown 2:12
Mentioned uh to start the off season that while he was really productive after arriving here, he you know, that he just didn't know the concepts of the offense. How cool has that process been uh for you with Jacoby working with him and and how well is he done yeah, absorbing everything? Yeah,
Liam Coen 2:27
he's he's definitely um I think taking a step in his understanding of the system. breaking the huddle, always knowing kinda what he's doing, where he's going, working through some of the intricacies of each play and concept. Um the rapport between, you know, he, uh, Trevor obviously and then and then, you know, Parker B T and those guys I think is is been um amplified over the last uh for throughout the entire off season program. Those guys being on a on a better page, understanding what they're trying to really get accomplished on each and every play. Um yeah, he doesn't make a ton of mental errors and mistakes, which is great. And it's so you can really truly go focus on on the ball, right? And and the details of route running, the concepts, the coverages.
Liam Coen 3:10
You can really pour into those things more as opposed to hey like this teaching each concept over and over again. He he picks it up pretty quick.
Unknown 3:20
or in a rookie this early on just to know that they're meeting that transition, that speed of the game. Yeah. Yeah.
Liam Coen 3:26
I think there's always a little bit of a transition um for for any rook going in and playing their first uh NFL game. I think uh the type of guys that we have, I think they'll be fine. You know, you think that you look at the way they've performed in some of the joints and some of the competition in practice, I think they've uh, you know, raised their level of competition and been able to kind of rise up and and do those things, which Which is nice. And um, you know, when you have the right kind of dudes, the right competitors, um, they usually rise to the occasion.
