They're fine, they can get weird, but when you add AI to the mix, you know, like generating AI portraits and videos of these celebs with their fans, things get increasingly creepy. And that's what we're here to discuss with Caitlin Greene, a media personality, a podcaster. Listen to her on the Jan Arden Podcast where she co-hosts. Caitlin, welcome in.

I should have generated a weird photo of you and I together to scare you for this, but I guess I'm not that creepy. What is available right now for those who haven't seen some of these AI videos that fans can generate of celebs?
So they're pretty good. They're getting pretty good. Initially, there was a lot of what people refer to as AI slop out there, and it was easily discernible as being fake. Now they're getting better. And so if you want to just be a creepy fan of, you know, for the example, we're going to use in this conversation, the cast of stranger things, you can do so.
How are AI-generated images and videos changing fan interactions?
And it really looks like you have a personal relationship with them. It can look like you're posing in a photo together. It can look like your friends. And it's truly for the biggest losers on the internet.
Yeah.
It still is AI slop, but it's highly refined slop. It's like a diamond in the slop. These photos and videos at this point, they are indistinguishable from reality. I mean, we're basically at that point that we were warning about a year ago. And these tools are in everyone's hands, thanks to people like Elon Musk and Grok. These AI tools are available to anybody with no guardrails. I saw a really creepy one that you sent me of a woman who had just given birth to a baby. It's a fan. She's in the hospital. She's in like, I don't know, birthing attire, a hospital smock.
What examples illustrate the unsettling use of AI in fan culture?
And she's not holding her baby, but someone else is.
No, she, this account pretends to be married to an actor from the cast of Stranger Things by the name of Joe Keery, K-E-E-R-Y. She refers to herself online as his wife and her account is called Kaylee Keery. So we're starting at a place of extreme discomfort and loserdom. And then from there, she posts more and more videos of herself with him. This one, and again, I'm saying him, this is like him being recreated by AI. This photo, yes, it's her lying in a hospital bed, gazing over lovingly at the AI version of her quote unquote husband, Joe Keery, who is shirtless in the hospital chair that dad sit in after someone's given birth, doing skin to skin contact with a newborn baby. So shirtless, holding a naked newborn baby on his chest, and she's pretending that she's just given birth to their child.
It's wild. And I guess like some of these more popular ones get deactivated, but these tools are in anyone's hands. Like it's a real, what is it for that game with the hammer and the little whack-a-mole? It's a real whack-a-mole. I don't think like TikTok is going to be able to take down these accounts. Could you imagine you were a celeb and some weird creepy dude was there and he posted this photo of you in the hospital bed holding your newborn, your AI newborn skin to skin? I would lose my mind.
What mental health implications arise from AI-generated celebrity interactions?
No, it's just so deeply unsettling and obviously goes without saying that so many people need mental health support and that now that they have access to tools like AI, they can really act out some pretty strange fantasies. And celebrities know this and anyone who kind of like follows celebrity news knows this. They have stalkers all the time. It's incredibly common. They have to sort of laugh it off as just a part of like doing business. But this would scare me. if someone is creating a whole reality for themselves where you are doing skin to skin contact with a newborn baby that you've had with this person in their mind, it's deeply disturbing. It is another level of, I just think of the, the Kathy Bates movie and I've misery.
