What experience does Mike have running Daggerheart and why now is he reviewing it?

Mike Shea 0:00
Hello friends, it's your pal Mike Shea from Sly Flourish. Today I am going to do a review of Daggerheart. I have finished 13 of a 14 session campaign. I find myself in a good spot to be able to do a review of the game. I feel like I have enough experience with the game to offer a reasonable review to GMs. So today we're going to dive into Daggerheart. But first, I would like to tell you about the Rise of the Lazy Game Master Kickstarter. Beginning on July 6th, we are going to have a Kickstarter for my latest book, Rise of the Lazy Game Master. The latest of the Lazy GM books, including Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master, Lazy DM's Companion, Forge of Foes, Lazy DM's Workbook, and others. I don't know if there's others.

There's one more, which is the original Lazy Dungeon Master. Anyway, we are doing a new book. So I've been working on this book last year. We are in the second draft, starting to go into editing of this book. But I need your help to make this book a reality. Art, layout, print production of the book, distribution, all the stuff that we need in order to really make this book a reality and get this book into as many people's hands. I need your help, and you can help me out. by going to the Kickstarter link that you can find in the show notes, clicking notify me on launch. So you will be aware when the Kickstarter goes live, which will give you access to the 30, I think it's like a 38 page free preview of the book that you can download and use in your games.

But also you can grab the link for this Kickstarter and subscribe. Tell your friends about it. Tell the other GMs in your lives. Show them what it's about and get them excited for this Kickstarter as well. Rise of the Lazy Game Master is a book focused around the eight steps of lazy GM prep, which were originally put in the Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master, expanding them out based on eight years of new experience, expanding out our discussion on campaign planning, building your campaigns all the way from your first thoughts to the actual running of the ending of your campaign, looking at 10 different adventure types, common adventure types that you find in your adventures, diving into those and looking at how you can customize the eight steps for each of those adventure types, and a huge toolkit of over 60 tips, tricks, and tools to help make your game awesome.

You can find out more by clicking on the link in the show notes and going to the Rise of the Lazy Game Master preview page. clicking notify me on launch so that you will uh be notified when the kickstarter is live can download your preview please check it out share it with your friends let everybody know about it i'm super excited about that is the rise of the lazy game master kickstarter coming on july 6th daggerheart so I was very excited for Daggerheart. I was excited to run it for my every other week group that we have. This is an online group and we have played 13 sessions of Daggerheart. I certainly have lots of opinions of the game after playing it for 13 sessions. And I talked to each of my players about the things that they how they felt about Daggerheart.
Mike Shea 2:52
And we've been sharing a lot of feedback and things like that. I've also been talking about it in the Sly Flourish Discord server. I've been playing around with a bunch of house rules. I've even offered up some house rules, which I'll offer up today as well. But in previous shows, I talked about some things that I did to kind of help make Daggerheart fall into a position that I want. But today, I want to give just an honest, straightforward review of Daggerheart. First, I'm going to give a disclaimer. If you love Daggerheart, you do not need to take anything that I say at any other value. If you're enjoying it, you're enjoying it. You don't need my permission to enjoy it. My goal is not to make people who already love Daggerheart or want to love Daggerheart to not love Daggerheart.
Mike Shea 3:29
That is not my goal. Same in the other direction. My goal, if you're not happy with Daggerheart, my goal isn't to make you see the way of Daggerheart and become a huge Daggerheart aficionado and throw all your other games away and just play it.
