Hey friends, it's your pal Mike Shea from Sly Flourish here with another episode of Sly Flourish's Lazy GM Prep. In this show, I go through steps from Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master and Rise of the Lazy Game Master while preparing for my Sunday role-playing game. In this case, I am playing a Midgard game using Tales of the Valiant set in the Dragon Empire called Scourge of the Dragon Empire. This show is brought to you by the patrons of Sly Flourish. To the patrons of Sly Flourish, thank you so much. And I want to tell you about Rise of the Lazy Game Master. Rise of the Lazy Game Master is a new book currently on Kickstarter, currently being Kickstarted. You can find a link to the Kickstarter in the show notes below.

Rise of the Lazy Game Master is the latest of the Lazy GM books alongside books like Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master, The Lazy DM's Companion, The Lazy DM's Workbook, Forge of Foes, and others. Rise of the Lazy Game Master focuses down on the eight steps of Lazy GM prep, which you're going to see me use today while I'm preparing for my game. and expands each of the steps based on eight years of new experiences, new feedback that we've gotten, new game systems that have come out, all kinds of stuff that's happened over the past eight years. This book kind of updates all of that sort of information and expands how you use the eight steps. The eight steps are the same eight steps that you find in return.

This book does not invalidate any of your previous Lazy GM books, and it is also a standalone book. If you pick up this book on its own, it works perfectly well on its own. You don't need to have any of the other books, but if you have the other books, they all work well together, giving you a nice baseline of material and essays and thoughts about how best to run your game. Rise of the Lazy Game Master focused us on things like the eight steps for lazy GM prep, how to prepare and run your campaign, what kind of adventure types do we commonly run for our games, how do we tailor our prep and our execution of those various gameplay types, those various adventure types, and a huge lazy GM toolkit of more than 60 tools, tips, and tricks that you can use to make your game better, plus essays on lots of other things that are inside the book.

tons of random tables, tons of maps, tons of useful stuff to help you run your games. The Kickstarter is going on right now. You can find a link down in the show notes to the Kickstarter. This is a free 36-page preview that shows you everything that's going to be in the book. It gives you examples of all the stuff that I was just talking about. It gives you a good idea of the kind of stuff you're going to find in this game. If you enjoy the work that I do, please consider supporting the Rise of the Lazy Game Master Kickstarter. And please tell your friends. If you have other friends and other GMs in your life, other people you think can benefit from this, please let them know about the Rise of the Lazy Game Master Kickstarter.

Thank you so much for your outstanding support. Yes, so I have a fewer number of characters. Lots has happened in my Dragon Empire game. Good news, they defeated the Lich, Jabir Al-Seki, who I think cast Power Word Kill... like three times, two characters died outright and then had to be brought back during the battle using raised dead. Uh, it was brutal. And I, I really like, you know, unleashed the, the, you know, it was not a fair fight. It was not fair. Uh, I used dreadful blessings to give him power word kill. Which, you know, he's a powerful lich. I think it mattered. And, you know, the characters have a lot going on. But I also use the kind of newer, you know, a modified version of Power Word Kill.
Mike Shea 3:28
And the way that Power Word Kill for me works is it does 100 necrotic damage. And if it takes you to zero, you die. So you take damage no matter what. And there's no save. There's no, you know, it's 100 necrotic damage or die. And he did three of them, which is... bananas but he's an arch lich you know i thought he was really powerful and one of them he was by far the most dangerous creature but it did get into the realm of the ridiculous as people are like seriously 100 damage you know i had like 28 points left like well then guess what pal you're dead but they had a cleric with rays dead and so there was a lot of scrambling around and getting people back on their feet and they did in fact defeat him
