What is the episode about and what campaign is Mike preparing?

Mike Shea 0:00
Hey friends, it's your pal Mike Shea from Sly Flourish here with another episode of Sly Flourish's Lazy GM Prep. In this weekly show, I go through steps from Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master while preparing for my Sunday role-playing game. In this case, I am running the Tales of the Valiant game set in the world of Midgard in a homebrew campaign called Scourge of the Dragon Empire. This show, like all of the work of Sly Flourish, is brought to you by patrons of Sly Flourish. Patrons get access to all kinds of tips, tricks, tools, previews of upcoming products, all kinds of stuff to help them run their games, access our awesome Discord community. And most of all, they help me put on shows like this.

Thank you so much for your support. We are, as of this recording, one week away, as of the time when you're seeing this video on YouTube or podcast, about three days away from the Rise of the Lazy Game Master Kickstarter. Rise of the Lazy Game Master is my new book along the Lazy GM series, where we look at the eight steps of lazy GM prep, expand them out for the different kinds of games that exist in these days, different kinds of GMs and how they approach it, and eight years of new experiences and how to use the eight steps. We also dive deep into campaign planning. How did everything from the first time you're starting to think about a campaign to the time when you're planning your campaigns end, all of the stages of campaign planning.
Mike Shea 1:18
We look at adventure types, all the common adventure types that we have in the adventures that we run, how you customize the eight steps for those adventure types, the process that you use to prep and run those adventure types, the pitfalls that you might run into while running those adventure types and how you avoid those pitfalls for 10 different adventure types. We have a lazy GM toolkit in there of 60 different tips, tricks, and tools that you can use, pick from, select from, put into your toolkit and run. We have tons of examples, tons of maps, tons of tables. It's going to be an awesome book. There's going to be a free 36-page PDF preview of it so you can see the kind of stuff you're going to get into this book.
Mike Shea 1:55
I'm really excited about this book. I've been working on it for a while. We're moving along with it. The second draft of the book is written. It is now actually in editing. And I can't wait to bring this book to you. But I need your help to support this book. I need your help to bring this book over the finish line. So please, if you would, take a look, sign up to be notified, or back to Kickstarter if you're seeing this later. And please let your friends know about The Rise of the Lazy Game Master coming to Kickstarter on July 6th. So it has been a couple of weeks since we've had this game. We did not have a game last week. Father's Day was last week. We had a bunch of people that were out, but we are back.
Mike Shea 2:32
So at the end of our last, in our last game for this, for the Scourge of the Dragon Empire, the characters are in the realm of Evermaw, the world of Evermaw. They are 14th level. They're going to get to 15th level when they succeed in this adventure. They are infiltrating this citadel known as Mind Splinter. which is ruled over by a lich named Jabir al-Seki. Jabir al-Seki has stolen the gold that the characters stole from the dragons. And the characters want their gold back. At the end of the session, the characters had recovered the gold. Well, they didn't recover the gold.

What progress update and Kickstarter news does Mike share about Rise of the Lazy Game Master?

Mike Shea 3:08
They found the gold and then realized they have the exact same problem they had when they found the gold the first time, which is how do you move slightly less than 2 million gold? And in a bunch of gold bars and a bunch of coins and they're inside the vault. And they're like, we've got it. It's right here. And they're like, we're going to get it. And so they called up their friends, the splintered, the, the, the sharpened coin mercenary company who said, once you find it, let us know and we'll help you get it. And they reached out to the sharpened coin.
