What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Hey friends, it's your pal Mike Shea from Sly Flourish, here with another episode of Sly Flourish's Lazy GM Prep. In this weekly show, I go through steps from Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master while preparing for my Sunday role-playing game. In this case, we are running the Dragon Empire, Scourge of the Dragon Empire, a homebrew campaign set in the world of Midgard using the Tales of the Valiant RPG system by Kobold Press. If you are a fan of the work that I do, please check out the Kickstarter for Rise of the Lazy Game Master. It is going on right now. If you're watching this video after August 6th, you can probably still support it through early pledges, late pledges, and things like that. So it's still worth checking out even if you missed it.
But if you are watching this show... On the week of, I'm recording on July 19th, so somewhere between the 19th and the 26th or whatever when this show comes out, the Rise of the Lazy Game Master Kickstarter is still going on. You can find a link in the show notes. In that link, you can go to the campaign page and you can read all about it. You can get a free, I think it's a 36-page preview. I never remember how many pages the preview is.
What is the Dragon Empire / Tales of the Valiant campaign context for this prep session?
It's a great big preview of many chapters of the book. I think it's 20% of the book is available in the PDF. So you can go take a look and see exactly what you're going to get. Rise of the Lazy Game Master is the latest of our Lazy GM books sitting alongside all the other Lazy GM books we have. But it is also a standalone volume. So you can buy it on its own and get total value out of it. Or you can... It sits well alongside all of your other Lazy GM books. Rise of the Lazy Game Master expands each of the eight steps for Lazy GM prep, which you're going to see me use for the show today. It also has a big focus on lazy campaign planning, how to build out your campaigns, all the way from your initial thoughts down to the very last session of your campaign.
It has a focus on adventure types, 10 different adventure types, including example scenarios that you can use as inspiration, use as examples, or even use as your own one shot or long-term campaigns.
How is the Rise of the Lazy Game Master Kickstarter connected to this episode?
It includes a huge lazy GM toolkit, tons of tools, tips, and tricks to help you prep your games. It's packed with usable, practical, random tables that you can use to kind of see the examples of the things we're talking about in the book, but also use for inspiration for your game. packed with a lot of tools, a bunch of maps, a bunch of stuff. It's going to be a really, really good book. I highly recommend you check it out. And please, if you would, go down, check out the Kickstarter, check out the preview, back it if you think it's something that's going to help you out. And if you've backed it and you are a big supporter of my work, please share it with your friends. Let people know on social media.
Post to your favorite forums. Talk to GMs. Email it to people. Let them know about this book so we can get the word out. For those of you who supported it, thank you so much for your outstanding support. It was a big session last session. So we had four players, and we spent a good half of the session on a single big question for the campaign, which was, if we assume everything works well, what does the Dragon Empire look like when you guys are done? And the players were really excited about that question. Like, wow, that is a really interesting question. Hey, my mom is here. Hi, mom. So it was one of these... And they said, like, it's like playing Risk. Like, we're doing these giant empire kind of things.
And they spent some time with the NPCs learning about what had happened after... Well, they were busy getting all their gold. They now have 900,000 gold in a big vault. So they got lots of money to use to help destabilize the empire. And they, so they talked to NPCs about what was going on. I'll talk about some of those big, those big things. And then from that kind of decided, okay, what do we want to do now? And they really enjoyed it. They were like, okay, we, you know, there's things we want to do over here.
