How does Ashley explain why people feel broke from overspending?
Hello, my budget besties. It's Ashley, your budget bestie. And today we are diving into my top tips to curb overspending. What I have found through the many years of being a money coach journey. Typically, people that are struggling and feel really, really broke, it's one of two things, right? One, which is the most common, is that they are overspending on things they don't even realize. Like they have no idea where their money is going. They underestimate what they've been spending on really everything that is a variable expense. Food, gas, random purchases, Amazon, all the things, right? Right? The other one is that they just don't make enough money to cover their bills. And unfortunately, I do see that at times, but it's not as common as mindless spending, not being intentional, and just overspending on random stuff.
And they don't have any idea where it went to and why they're so broke. So today we're going to dive into how you can get on track curb that overspending, remove temptation so that you can save and pay off debt because that is the ultimate goal, right? We wanna be able to have that financial freedom. We wanna be able to feel comfortable spending money on the things that we actually want and to be able to retire and not have to worry about food and things like that. So let's dive into some of the things that you can do today You can do this today, this week, this month, like you can start doing this now to rein in that overspending. I want you to take this list, take some notes and decide what you can start to implement today and just pick one. So whatever makes sense for you based on your situation and your schedule and the season of life that you are in. I want you to decide what you can start today and then maybe two other things that you can start this month. Now at the recording, we're halfway through May of 2025. so three things in a month not too bad and then pick a couple for June or maybe you pick one for this month and two or three for June these are pretty easy to start and I'm gonna tell you what resources I have to help you get started so let's dive in all right the first one now I would say that it probably is the most important because it is the foundation and it is everything that I do is creating a budget.
Now, that doesn't mean that a budget is just lining out your income and your regular bills for the month and then that's it. There's a lot more to it that I teach. And I teach to break it down by paycheck and to plan what is left over after your bills because that is where the magic happens. What happens is we pay our bills. Hopefully, most of us, we pay our bills. And what is left over, we just randomly spend and then we can't figure out why we're broke. So that is... is the key to managing your budget, staying on track, curbing overspending, is making a plan for what is left over after you pay your bills for every paycheck. Now if you haven't started this yet, I do have a free budget starter kit that will break this down for you.
