Dang. Yes, it is. Turn off. Don't read the Bible. And I'm just kidding. No, it's not misogynistic. Context, context, context, right? So people rip that verse to pieces and like super butcher that verse. It's found in 2 Timothy. Essentially, what it says is women are to keep quiet in the church, right? There's other verses in Corinthians as well. And what do you mean by that? Yeah, yeah. I was trying to add an amen or like a... So people think women can't pastor, can't teach, can't really do anything that holds a man's position. And that's why they say the Bible is misogynistic in this way. In fact, it's not their fault. Some churches actually teach it too, which is kind of wild, right? They teach that women are overly emotional or whatever it is, and that's why they can't hold an authoritative position, which is not true.
When you look at Deborah, when you look at deacons, there are women out there who are literally named with the apostles. So is that what he means when he's saying, no, is he going against Jesus? Absolutely not, right? So Paul... in context is writing to the church of Ephesus, to Timothy, because Timothy is in Ephesus, right? And so Ephesus is a place in Rome that is basically like the modern day Vegas. It's sin city.
What made it sin city?
So what makes it Sin City is it's where witchcraft is at. It's full of cults, multiple different cults. It's full of proto-gnosticism, meaning they don't believe that the deity of Christ, they believe flesh is evil, yes, but spirit is born pure and good. So there's a lot of these cults that go up and rise against Peter's teachings. And the cult of Artemis is the peculiar one that Paul is fighting with. They challenge the gospel. They say that women, for example, are born before men, like Eve was made before Adam. There's these stories of Lilith being the first wife, not actually Eve. And so, you know, the women basically do not have to submit or conform to the Greco-Roman cultures, which is a Greece and Roman cultures of submit to your husband, wife, submit to your husband.
So it's basically pre-feminism. And it's very, very it goes against doctrine. And so because Paul is a preacher. of righteousness and a preacher of grace, he can't just kick people out the church. So what he does is he goes, tell those churches, not a universal law, tell those people in that church, those women who are sleeping their way through the pulpit, who are literally bringing witchcraft and doing this, he's going, tell them to stop talking and learn more because they have to learn the gospel and then they can teach, right?
