Jonathan Gillham 1:18
Hey Dyson, yeah, glad to be back. Happy to happy to chat with you again.
Tyson Stockton 1:21
So, I mean, since the last time we had you on the podcast, there's been, you know, a fair amount of of change in in the space. Like obviously this kind of specific area of SEO and like content creation has been very turbulent in the last couple of years. But today we're gonna kinda like dive into like ethics and safety. So maybe if you could just kind of set the stage for the listeners, like what is kind of the the breadth of this subject of ethics and safety?
Jonathan Gillham 1:53
Yeah, I think so as as the efficiency of publishing has has gone up drastically with the advent of of AI, it's become so easy for somebody to just click publish and push out a thousand a thousand articles. And that introduces a whole range of potential problems that companies need to be on top of in terms of being able to manage the risks of somebody going rogue in their marketing team.

How does the rise in AI‑generated content create new SEO and publishing risks?

Jonathan Gillham 2:18
their SEO team and and thinking that they're sort of gonna juice some numbers for a month or a quarter um and be able to hammer out a ton of a ton of content. And so I think with that sort of increase in efficiency, it need there's been this sort of the slower response around the sort of ethics and safety and control on the damage that can happen when unmitigated content production occurs. with with no controls in place.
Tyson Stockton 2:45
And as far as like within this space, like do you feel like SEOs and like content creators like What's the awareness level of this? Like do you think people are kind of coming around and like it's moving away from the kind of honeymoon phase of just like excitement and curiosity and then being like, Oh yeah, like I guess we do need to kinda like be a little conscious here.
Jonathan Gillham 3:11
Yeah, I think I think the I mean, I think this industry is probably leading the way in terms like we talk to a lot of industries. Um and I'd say this and then I mean I come from kind of the SEO content marketing world, but we ha within Originality we have tons of customers from academia and other places. I think definitely leading the way in terms of knowledge of both the power of of generative AI as well as as well as some of the risks. I think there's definitely a lot of people that have sort of understood those risks and and are are sort of managing them and trying to avoid the brand reputation, the legal potential consequences of publishing content without a proper editorial process. I think there's also a lot of people that, you know, frankly don't care.
Jonathan Gillham 3:53
just are still in the game of trying to uh find the right sort of hack to the prompt or find the right sort of Clever strategy that gets them out of doing the hard work of ensuring that the content that they're publishing doesn't introduce new risk for their business.
Tyson Stockton 4:09
And within kind of I guess like the SEO lens. It feels like the overlap between ethics and safety and kind of like the black hat, white hat debate kind of feels like it's uh one in the same almost of like the of the conversation.
