And no, Google does not have a way to filter out featured SNP features that it
or AI overviews to say how much that's driving traffic.
Microsoft is also to blame.
They have Big Webmaster tools and they said we are going to show this data in Big Webmaster Tools.
And when they launched it, they did not break out their BingChat now copilot results.
They actually lumped it together with web and copilot or big or in copilot.
So now you're just seeing the bulk of the information as one, you're not able to differentiate what's my click-through rate from the A
AI answer in either Google or Bing, you're not able to differentiate that between the AI overview or the AI answer and the normal search results.
So you're not going to be able to say, are the normal search results generating a higher click-through rate or more traffic to me over the feature snippets or the AI answer?
And if you were a publisher and you wanted to know that, you might be like, I want to opt out of this.
There's no real way to opt out of it.
If you want to opt out of AI overviews, you have to opt out of all the search.
So we're kind of in like this position.
where Google says and Microsoft says it's leading to more clicks and more traffic, but they're not showing that in the data they provide to the publishers.
And there's really no way to opt out of one or the other.
You're either in it or you're out of it completely.
You want to be in search, you have to also be in AI overviews.
