And you can do these things and they are delightful.
My sister actually has done the yoga retreat thing and Bali.
I don't know if she's done the silent retreat.
A f another friend of mine did a silent retreat.
I would love to do either of those things.
And I certainly would love to go vacation.
But the point isn't that those things are bad.
It's just that if we do those things but then don't do anything, nothing shifts in our everyday life, we're just gonna complete that cycle of that boom and bust cycle.
We're just gonna ramp it back up and then need that again in the future.
So intense recovery experiences, they can be meaningful, but they're not a substitute for these small, boring, consistent practices.
That can help us restore our nervous system.
So going to bed on time, having practices regularly that help us connect and disconnect in ways that we need to.
There is research that confirms this that talks about recovery happening in accumulated micro moments and not just annual events.
It's taking the walk around the block.
It's the coffee while it's still hot.
It's 10
minutes with a novel.
And a lot of times I think those things feel too small to think that they'll make a difference, but they really do accumulate in a way that's wildly meaningful.
And I think that there's also just this like advocacy building that goes with this, that when you prove to yourself I can rest for ten minutes and read a novel and nothing fell apart, I think it becomes easier.
to then go, what if I did that for 20 minutes?
