Are you okay having this conversation?
What do you need from me?
You're really putting a lot of pressure on the other person to come up with solutions.
And it's putting your mental health, in a sense, on the other person.
So one of the best ways to approach this conversation is to be upfront with, you know, I need you to just listen.
Or I want some affection in this conversation.
Or I just want to be open and honest.
So if you want to say something, feel free.
Or if you have questions, but ultimately I just want to share this with you.
And that's a good way to sort of begin the conversation because that way you're sort of directing the other person to know how to respond and you sort of move towards one of those more positive outcomes.
Well, I think it's like listening to anyone when they're talking about their feelings, right?
I mean, there's so many things that we can do as people when we're listening to other people share their feelings.
One of the things I think we get caught in when we're talking about mental health is that, you know, diagnoses are...
so important for understanding things, but they're just the label and that mental health is so much deeper than that.
And there's so much depth under the surface of the labels that we can actually connect with once we go beneath the labels themselves.
So as a partner, what you can do when you're really sort of trying to understand and be supportive is connect with the feelings rather than necessarily what the diagnosis is and try and understand what's going underneath the diagnosis for the individual so that you can be supportive.
I think it can be a real tricky scenario to manoeuvre in a relationship where you're
When we feel under pressure from someone else to work on our mental health, it can almost make all of our struggles even more intensified.
And so when you want to be able to draw that line between, on the one hand, leaning on the partner sometimes.
But on the other hand, being able to work on ourselves sometimes.
