So like it kind of mirrored how I could, my understanding of my body and my illness grew over time by repetitions of it.
I could have that same kind of structure in the book and like the understanding could grow through the repetitions throughout it.
No, but also like I didn't want, like my story doesn't end.
Yeah, like I'm continuing to live and exist and create new art and like have new stories.
And so the book just having an ending that felt definitive of my life at what like, I think it ends when I'm 27.

No, this is a book about like continuing as well.
Absolutely.
So many of the women that I have heard from who have PMDD... ...describe themselves as feeling monstrous, out of control... ...and that they're afraid of what they might do.
And because there's so much... ...there's so limited stories from actual women with PMDD... ...I really struggled to find them on the page...
I instead turn to literature.
I turn to these like periodic monsters or like you've got your carries, for example, all these depictions of women who are angry and are told that something is wrong with them or werewolves.
And I really wanted to kind of explore how our culture views female rage because I felt that being diagnosed that this wasn't just
that could be understood scientifically, it was also understood culturally.
Like the ways that our culture viewed this illness and the stigmas surrounding it were deeply impacting my experience of it.
Like both my own stigmas that I carried and medical misogyny, they really impacted how I experienced the illness.
And monsters were the lens through which I could understand that cultural lens.
um, view of women and, uh, when our emotions become too much and when do we become a monster?
