It does.
The self-control comes out of a self-awareness.
And yeah, it can be really difficult.
It is really difficult to be drawn towards someone who is helping you repeat an unhealthy pattern.
an analogy would be about fast food and we've all got a thing for fast food.
We all like it.
And I think you can eat fast food in a healthy way.
I think... I know for myself that I tend to really sugar up when I'm feeling not so good about myself.
And I find that...
wholesome food, good food, is more attractive to me when I'm feeling good about myself.
And how to break that cycle does require those two things, that awareness, oh, I have this pattern.
I go for the mint slices when I'm not feeling so good.
And to recognize that, in fact, I will feel better if I, all right, steam up some veggies.
That's a good question.
It's quite a common thing to find yourself drawn back in, even against your better judgment, to relationship patterns that haven't worked before.
And as soon as I say haven't worked, I want to amend that to say, well, they haven't worked and they have worked.
They've been partially successful.
And there's something in the drama of relationships that can be really quite exciting.
Again, I want to go back to what I was talking about before in terms of early childhood and the project, as I often call it, to somehow reach back in time and get the unconditional love.
If only I was more lovable, if only I was cuter, if only I was smarter, if only I was better behaved.
