So I went into therapy after having my second child and gave up drinking then and had a third child in sobriety.
But so my children were only four and six weeks old when I stopped drinking forever.
So they will never ever know me as a drinker.
They will never remember me having a drink.
It it is not going to be something that will be part of their lives.
But I often think about that, how weird it is, because all of their friends' parents, you know, they go round their houses, everybody drinks, everyone's having wines in the afternoon and it's really normalized everywhere else.
And in our house there isn't any alcohol.
People don't really drink when they come here.
I don't ask people not to drink.
I think people are kind of quite polite about it now and decide not to drink when they're coming to hang out with us.
They probably think we're terribly boring, but hey ho.
And my kids just don't see it.
And it's really weird to grow up 'cause it's the opposite of of how I grew up.
All I saw was people drinking all the time, every weekend.
It wasn't any sort of
you know, alone drinking or sad drinking in my house growing up.
It was very frivolous, very joyful.
And, you know, I just thought, wow, this is how people have fun and this is how everyone fits in, and I'm gonna join in doing that.
So I'm hoping that my children will do the same.
And I certainly think, Dave, that I didn't have a choice about alcohol.
