I'm your host, Tamara. And if you're new around here, welcome, my friend. You have joined a group of hardworking moms who are coming together to talk about the things that are driving us crazy, the things on our to-do list that we can never get done. And we are working out ways that we can learn how to do them systematically so that we can Check them off our lists, be done with them, and move on with our lives. And today we're talking about summer. Uh I don't know where in the world you are while you're listening to this, but here in Ontario, Canada. The weather is just starting to get nice. The sun is shining. It's still pretty chilly for this time of year, but it's getting there. And summer is coming.

What is the “A‑day/B‑day” framework and how does it create rhythm without rigidity?

Tamara 2:20
We are entering one of the busiest months. This is like second Christmas. June, if you are have a kid, a school aged kid, June is like for some reason it's like second Christmas. There's so much going on. And so let's get it all planned out. Let's plan out this summer and then maybe you might actually enjoy it and not be just like running around with your head cut off, just like waiting for the week that you booked off so you can have your holiday. But before we get into the house, let's talk about why it's so hard. Because if you understand the problem, then the solution is going to make a lot more sense. And the and the correct solution for you is going to make more sense. So the school year gives you an external strong

structure, right? You didn't have to build it yourself. Pickup times are already organized. Drop off times are already organized. Homework, routines, bedtime, all of that. getting up in the morning, all of that is usually pretty organized and it gives you that rhythm that organizes your day, even though it might feel kind of annoying sometimes. It is a structure that feels a bit more supportive than just the wild chaos of no structure to the day. So when summer hits, that external structure disappears. And if you don't replace it with something intentional, you end up in one of two places. Either you try to maintain the exact same structure you had during the school year, which doesn't usually work, and it's exhausting and also kind of you miss the point of summer, right?

Or you let it all go and end up in a total free for all with your kids who are overtired in the house all day. And you are just completely burnt out and just waiting for the back to school. So what I've learned is that neither of those are the answer. Flexible structure that gives you enough rhythm to feel grounded, but enough openness to actually rest and enjoy the season is the way to go.
