Why does the back‑to‑school season expose weak spots in our daily systems?

Tamara 0:00
The beginning of a new school year has something that the rest of the year doesn't offer. It comes with a built-in structure. The calendar changes, routines shift, and for many of us, this feels like a fresh start. But while the structure is helpful, it also brings something else, more responsibility. School mornings, lunches, permission forms, homework, activities, laundry, appointments, packing bags, emptying backpacks, and keeping everyone on time for all the things that they have going on. It's a lot. And what the back to school season tends to expose are all the places where we don't yet have systems that are supporting us. So in this episode, we are going to uncover those weak links before the school season starts while simultaneously removing things from our to-do list.

And if you're just tuning in for the first time, we are on the second episode of our back to school prep series. Now, some of you are like, why are we talking about back to school? It is still summertime. Why are we talking about this?

How can I identify repeatable tasks that don’t belong on my to‑do list?

Tamara 2:07
Well, we are talking about it now so that we can get ourselves prepared so that back to school season begins without all the struggle that sometimes comes along with that shift from more flexible schedule to more structure. And for some of us who love structure and love schedules, we look forward to the back to school season because it has that built in structure to the day. Like there's certain times we have to be places and then that kind of dictates how our day is going to flow. But for others, this is really stressful. And even if you do love the structure, sometimes it is difficult to get those kids moving, especially in the morning, to get out the door. Maybe it's even getting them moving after school to get them to activities. So what we're talking about in this series is some tips and tricks to make that start to school a little less chaotic.

And today we are diving in to finding out where in our current way we're doing things, whether you have systems and routines in place already or whether you think you don't and you do, but they're actually just not supporting you. We're going to uncover where those systems are maybe a weak link and in your chain so that you can start to create more predictable rhythms to your day. Because when we don't have those supportive systems in our pockets, then everything that could be a system ends up living on our to-do lists, which then makes our to-do list super long and it doesn't need to be. And today we're going to talk about how to shorten that list, find out what systems we need to get in place to

so that we can start building that before the school season starts so if you're the mom that every morning you have to like remind yourself to pack lunches and every afternoon you're wondering what's for dinner and you're that like last minute mom that's like okay is the soccer jersey washed I can't remember if I put it in the washing machine or not or if the library books made it back into the backpack this episode is going to be really supportive to you because I'm going to tell you right now none of those things should be surprises
