And today we're digging into a very common problem, and that is being motivated, being ready to go, but not being able to complete our list of things that we wanted to do, or getting started on things, but not being able to get them finished. So in this episode, we are going to figure out what's going wrong and I'm gonna give you a few ideas of how to deal with it. So here's I'm gonna give you three different reasons why this might be happening. So the first reason that this might be showing up for you. So when you sit down to make your to-do list, and I know you make that list because you're the kind of person who wants to get things done. You're writing down everything that you want to accomplish.

How does an overloaded to‑do list keep you from finishing anything?

Tamara 2:16
like you're starting with a blank slate every day. But you're not. You never are. You're a mom. You've got things already baked into your daily schedule. You have a job that you have to go to. You have kids you have to take care of. You have lunches that need made. You have dinners that need made you have rides. You have emotional support that needs to be offered. You have approximately 4,000 requests for snacks and questions that need to be answered. and commitments and meals to make and a house that doesn't clean itself and your day is already full before you even write a single thing on that list. So when you sit down and you write 10 things that you want to get done that day, your day only actually has room for maybe three of those things, right?
Tamara 3:00
And that doesn't mean that you're failing at anything or you're bad at it. You're just busy. And the problem isn't you, the problem is your list itself. The fix isn't to do more or hustle harder. That's never ever the answer, by the way, around here. It's because you're before you add a single thing to your day, you need to know what's actually already going on in it. Inside the balance it method, I teach my students as they come through that when we write our to-do list, well, we don't write to-do lists, first of all.

What is a “priority funnel” and how does it replace a traditional to‑do list?

Tamara 3:33
We write priority funnels. And when we write our priority funnels, we are making sure that in each day of our week we have a little segment of that day dedicated to one. of those tasks on the priority funnel. Just one. Okay. So that giant list of ten things that you wanted to get done after work. Not really very realistic now, is it? Okay, part two, the reason why nothing is getting done in this one is Really sneaky, but really familiar. You're in the middle of something, you're actually doing the thing that you were said you were gonna do, and then someone needs you, right?
