As things stand this morning, the Jays sweeping the Mariners has pushed the Mariners quite far out of the race. It's Help the blue jays. Get to a spot where they only have two teams to jump at this point. And those two teams are the Cleveland Guardians, who the Blue Jays have three games against starting on Tuesday, and the Baltimore Orioles, who the Blue Jays still have six games left against. So the Blue Jays have pushed themselves from 10% playoff odds on Friday morning to about 25% playoff odds today. Obviously it was a very, very fun weekend down at Rogers Center. Um, from you know, a Friday night game where I think a lot of us, myself included, weren't feeling great coming out of that Royal series. Then you get Buck Day and they provide a win on top of that. And then there's the uh the Max Scherzer Day. Before we get into the specifics, though, I mentioned off the top there the playoff odds have jumped from 10% to 25%. So about one in ten to about one in four. If you're doing your coin flips, you know. So that is uh that's a much stronger spot to be in.
Did the quality of play this weekend move you at all? Does that change in playoff odds move you? Well,
first off, I know you're a wrestling guy, as am I. So what comes to mind immediately is that Undertaker meme of him sitting up. That's what the Blue Jays are, that's what Max Schuser is. But yeah, I mean the quality of baseball was strong. I mean, part of me is a little bit wary, just given the Mariners lineup, they just looked atrocious all weekend. Man, like they couldn't put anything together. Julio Rodriguez does not look Anything like what we think he is. But having said all that, I mean credit to the Blue Jays, right? Uh we and we'll talk about it, we'll get into it. But the underlying stuff is kind of good as well with certain big name players as well.
Yeah. And look, if you're gonna make a run over these last twenty four games, you need a little bit of everything. You need a little bit of luck. You need to run into a Mariners team that you're getting like they caught the Royals at the wrong time. They had won a bunch of games in a row and they took two the Royals took two or three against the Guardians on the weekend. So they kind of paid the favor back to the Blue Jays. But you need a little bit of luck. You need to run into teams at the wrong uh or at the right time, rather, and you need everything kind of going The right way as far as pitching and defense and hitting. And they got a little bit of everything. I'm still, you know, the bats still aren't like blowing anyone away, uh, even though they they contribute a little bit more there.
Um, but yeah, what have what has stood out to you most? The Jays are 20 and 12 since the week before the trade deadline. Uh only the Rays are better in the American League. What has stood out most to you about the how they're playing better baseball?
